OB SUMMARY
Provides manual labor following basic routines directed by an immediate supervisor during construction, repair and maintenance of City water or wastewater services and facilities.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in the installation and maintenance of pipe of various sizes and types, valves, water and wastewater services, fire hydrants, flush valves, booster stations, lift stations, manholes and facilities. Operates and uses hand and pneumatic tools as needed, including jackhammers, gasoline tampers, hack saws, tapping machine, boring machine, hydraulic jacking machine, cement mixers and compressors and sewer jetting machine, Drives front-end loader, dump trucks, backhoe, combination vacuum and jetting machine, track vehicles and cherry picker. Reads and completes daily work logs and service forms. Performs duties in a safe and orderly manner, complying with all City and department safety rules. Regular attendance at work and arrives on time. Performs all other job-related duties as assigned or as become apparent. Ability to get along with other employees and the public.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Ability to transport self from site to site. Ability to drive various types of equipment and vehicles to and from various worksites. Employee will work in extreme temperatures, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, twisting, climbing and lifting in order to maintain or repair the City's water or wastewater systems. Employee will work with chemicals, mechanical, electrical and traffic hazards. Employee will work in confined spaces, trenches and in streets where extreme hazards exist while performing duties. Employee is frequently required to perform heavy lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 100 pounds. Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, odors, water and mud. Employee must be able to walk on slippery, loose, uneven and sloped surfaces.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Knowledge of proper equipment used in the repair and maintenance of City's water and wastewater system. Ability to operate vehicles and equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, cherry picker, front end loaders, tampers, jackhammers, pneumatic tools, sewer jetting machine, jacking machine and boring machine. Ability to read and comprehend operating and instruction manuals, chemical labels, policy manuals, etc. Ability to complete forms for inspections of equipment and records of work performed. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Math skills for determining chemical dosages and line measurements.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent. Six months experience in maintenance/construction preferred. Class II Collection License OR Grade C Distribution License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is preferred. Valid Texas Class C driver's license required. Must obtain a Class B Commercial driver's license with a tanker endorsement within six months of employment. Driving record that meets City guidelines.
