Job Description

This is an entry-level, seasonal position that provides unskilled labor and assistance to Stormwater Utility staff in support of routine stormwater maintenance, inspection, and program activities. Duties are performed under close supervision and are intended to support employees of higher classification. This position is not expected to independently perform technical stormwater work.
General schedule and duties:
Typically Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a term of up to six (6) months (seasonal). Schedule may vary based on operational need and weather.

Essential Job Functions Perform activities to assist employees of higher classification in maintenance, cleaning, and repair work related to public stormwater facilities and right-of-way drainage features. Assist with removal of debris and sediment from catch basins, grates, ditches, outfalls, and other stormwater conveyance features using appropriate hand tools. Assist with routine cleaning and grounds/housekeeping at stormwater-related facilities and City-owned properties (e.g., litter pickup, sweeping, pressure washing, vegetation removal). Assist with preparation, staging, loading/unloading, and basic care of tools, equipment, materials, cones, and barricades at job sites (no certified flagging required or expected). Assist with field observations and documentation as directed (e.g., noting standing water, blockages, illicit discharge indicators) and report concerns to lead or supervisor. Operate small hand tools and light equipment as trained and authorized (e.g., shovels, rakes, brooms, line trimmers, backpack blowers; limited vehicle/equipment operation only when specifically authorized). Clean and maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment; perform basic checks (fluids, tire condition) and report needed repairs. Respond to questions and provide information within scope of knowledge or refer to employee of higher classification. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or
GED. U.S.
citizen or legally eligible to work in the United States. Possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License with a driving record acceptable to the City. Successfully pass Background Check.
Preferred:
One (1) year of similar outdoor labor or public works maintenance experience. Experience using common hand and power tools (e.g., line trimmers, blowers, pressure washers). This is a non-represented, seasonal position and is eligible for overtime.
