Opens a new window. Required. SUMMARY We are seeking an Electrical Designer to support the development and integration of shipboard electrical systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating detailed electrical 3D models, wiring diagrams, cable routing plans, and equipment layouts in accordance with applicable maritime standards and project specifications. This role involves close collaboration with engineers and other design disciplines to ensure accurate and efficient documentation for power distribution, lighting, control, and communication systems aboard vessels. Proficiency with CAD tools (such as AVEVA, Ship Constructor, SolidWorks, NX, 3D AutoCAD or Revit), knowledge of marine electrical systems, and familiarity with regulatory standards (ABS, IEEE, IEC) are required. Experience in shipbuilding or marine design environments is highly desirable.

Anticipates roadblocks and mitigates their impact based on experience Identifies and applies state of the art solutions to complex problems Serves as focal point for discussing the organization's agreed technical position with external-to-engineering SMEs and representatives (such ABS surveyors, Production Superintendents, Managers, Deputy Ship Design Managers) Coordinates and facilitates working groups, including driving to decisions, and determining follow on actions Identifies needs for additional training/guidance for individuals in the team and the need for mentoring Mentors their department on advanced technical principles, theories and concepts Understands context for creation and prior applications of requirements (such as rules, regulations, contracts, and references) as well as requirements at the periphery of a given technical situation and related prior variations on those requirements Other responsibilities and duties as assigned

Duties performed on ships require ascending and descending stairs and ladders, transiting on scaffolding and at heights, transiting through manholes and other narrow, confined, or congested spaces. This position requires exposure to industrial areas which contain hazardous materials, loud noise (including sirens, horns, chipping, slamming, and hammering), dust, fumes, and exposure to weather. SHIPYARD CAPABILITIES
NASSCO's shipyard facilities are capable of building commercial cargo ships and tankers and Navy auxiliary ships up to 1,000 feet in length and servicing or repairing any vessel sailing on the West Coast of the United States. Our main shipyard is located on San Diego Bay, which has a channel depth of 35 feet. To reach NASSCO, ships pass under the Coronado Bridge, which has a vertical clearance of 195 feet. JOB SUMMARY
Operates single and double trolley bridge cranes of various sizes to lift and move heavy objects such as steel and structural members. Repositions crane to raise and lower load. Inspects crane for defective parts and performs simple and routine maintenance. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Knowledge of mechanical and crane operation principles required. NASSCO training and certification will be required. Must possess excellent hand, foot and eye coordination. JOB SUMMARY
Rigs material to lift, move and position material onto ship or to move around the yard. Conveys instructions to crane operators and forklift drivers using hand signals, loud speaker or telephone. Locates loads/unloads materials and equipment on and off ship and in and out of yard. Tests and installs rigging equipment, such as cargo booms, elevators, boat davits, booms and portable davits. Controls movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces. Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, braces and cushions according to weight, distribution and size of load to be moved. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Five years experience at ship yards or five years experience as Boatswain Mate Second Class P.O. or above. High school graduate or equivalent. Good knowledge of all rigging equipment, ability to test shipboard and yard equipment. Must have ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and be available to work any shift. Must comprehend written and verbal instructions, hear warning signals, and read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations, and warnings.
