Cage Lead (Structural Fitting & Welding)

Full-Time Compensation:
$21.00 - $24.00 Hourly The Role We are looking for a hands-on, highly organized Cage Lead to oversee daily fabrication, welding, and material operations within the Cage department. You will serve as the primary bridge between shop employees and management, ensuring the team is working safely, hitting production targets, and maintaining top-tier quality. This is a dynamic role that requires a strong background in structural fitting and welding, a knack for inventory control, and the leadership skills to mentor a hardworking team.
What You'll Do Lead & Mentor:
Supervise, train, and coordinate the daily activities of structural fitters, welders, and cage personnel.
Manage Production:
Assign work based on schedules and priorities, monitoring workflow to keep jobs on track and within labor expectations.
Ensure Quality:
Verify material, fit-up, FCAW weld quality, and dimensional accuracy against blueprints and customer specs before release.
Control Inventory:
Maintain accurate inventory records, manage receiving/storing/issuing of components, and perform regular cycle counts.
Drive Safety:
Enforce company safety policies, conduct daily pre-shift meetings, and ensure the proper use of PPE and equipment.
Collaborate:
Work closely with Quality, Shipping, Maintenance, and Production Management to eliminate bottlenecks and optimize material flow.
What You Bring Experience:
7+ years of structural fitting and welding experience in a heavy industrial/fabrication environment.
Leadership:
3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
Language Skills:
Must be fluent in English and Spanish.
Technical Skills:
Deep understanding of FCAW welding, structural steel fabrication, measuring tools, and blueprint/weld symbol interpretation.
Problem-Solving:
Proactive ability to troubleshoot fabrication issues and improve department efficiency.
Tech Savvy:
Basic computer skills and familiarity with production/inventory tracking systems.
Flexibility:
Willingness to work overtime and weekends as production demands require. Work Environment & Physical Demands Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly throughout the shift. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, non-climate-controlled metal fabrication facility. Exposure to welding fumes, grinding dust, noise, and moving equipment. Strict adherence to wearing required PPE (hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots).
Compensation / Pay
Rate (Up to): $21.00 - $24.00 Per Hour
