Job Summary:
The Calibration Laboratory Manager directs everyday calibration and precision measurement operations with a technical staff of calibration technicians and metrologists. The manager oversees and is responsible for the accuracy of Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE), and ensures compliance with NASA's quality requirements at the Kennedy Space Center, FL. This role is responsible for all technical metrology, financial budgeting, and customer satisfaction within the laboratory. The manager also leads continuous laboratory improvement initiatives.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Lab Operations Management:
Plan daily workloads, schedule calibrations, and optimize turnaround times. Oversee inventory and maintenance of laboratory standards, supporting equipment, and replacement parts.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
Ensure laboratory operations align with regulatory standards and maintain compliance with
ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI/NCSL Z540.1, ANSI/NCSL
Z540.3, and
SAE AS9100
quality standards. Maintain audit schedules and the internal quality surveillance program.
Team Leadership:
Recruit, train, and mentor calibration technicians and metrologists. Ensure the staff properly understands and interprets complex technical measurement processes, procedures, and measurement uncertainties.
Financial Oversight:
Manage laboratory budgets and capital expenditures for new calibration laboratory standards and testing equipment.
Customer Relations:
Act as the primary technical point of contact for customer requests and calibration requirements. Resolve service issues with customers and implement ways to improve good customer relations, as well as ways to identify business growth opportunities.
Contractual Requirements:
Routinely provide calibration data, reports, performance metrics, and deliverables to the NASA customer per contract requirements.
Requirements Required Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, math, or a science field. May be substituted with 10 years of metrology experience.
Required Years of Experience:
Three (3) years of supervisory or management experience within the metrology or calibration industry preferred. May be substituted with ten (10) years of metrology experience and a related associate's degree or DOD metrology training. Required Skills, Qualifications, Technical Experience, Certifications, etc.: Comprehensive knowledge of measurement disciplines (physical, dimensional, electrical), calibration requirements, and measurement uncertainty analysis. Strong quantitative analysis skills, excellent interpersonal communication, and the ability to manage complex projects under pressure. Experience using calibration work control database software to track workflow, equipment due dates, asset histories, and generate reports. Fluke Met/Team preferred. Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to meet background investigation requirements relevant to the position, consistent with applicable laws. Must be willing to comply with pre-employment and random drug testing, in accordance with company policy. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must be competent with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams).
