Job Description

Camera Image Quality Tuning Engineer Job Description This role focuses on optimizing and delivering superior camera image quality across a portfolio of consumer devices, with a strong emphasis on Qualcomm and MediaTek platforms. You will perform end-to-end camera tuning, analyze images captured under diverse conditions, and refine image processing parameters to meet clearly defined quality standards for end users. Working closely with validation and cross-functional teams, you will use established tools, processes, and KPIs to ensure that every image meets the expected quality benchmarks. Responsibilities Perform end-to-end camera tuning on Qualcomm and MediaTek platforms for consumer devices. Optimize image quality parameters for a wide range of lighting conditions and real-world use cases. Configure and refine image processing parameters such as sharpening, noise reduction, and color reproduction. Use Qualcomm and MediaTek camera tuning tools and simulation tools to analyze and improve image quality. Evaluate image quality using both objective metrics and subjective visual assessment. Capture and analyze images under various lighting conditions and test scenarios to validate tuning changes. Understand and anticipate how image processing algorithms will affect overall image quality and user perception. Run simulations on RAW images to determine the best tuning strategies for different use cases. Set, follow, and help refine KPIs and processes to ensure image quality targets are consistently met under defined lighting conditions. Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test procedures for camera image quality validation. Use lab equipment and test fixtures for camera testing and controlled image capture. Create, maintain, and update tuning documentation, including test results and tuning reports. Tune images generated from devices when hardware or lens changes occur, ensuring the sharpness profile and overall quality remain optimal. Follow established standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure each image meets predefined quality expectations. Collaborate with validation and other technical teams to verify image quality improvements and resolve image quality issues. Identify common image quality issues and apply appropriate solutions based on domain expertise. Distinguish clearly between good and poor image quality and communicate findings and recommendations effectively. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. 3+ years of hands-on experience in mobile camera tuning. Proven experience with Qualcomm Snapdragon platforms and camera tuning tools, or MediaTek platforms and camera tuning tools. Strong proficiency in end-to-end camera tuning workflows on Qualcomm and/or MediaTek platforms. Experience performing objective and subjective image quality evaluation. Proficiency in camera testing under various lighting conditions and use cases. Familiarity with image quality metrics, testing methodologies, and KPI-driven quality assessment. Expertise in using camera tuning tools specific to Qualcomm and/or MediaTek. Understanding of RAW image processing and its impact on final image quality. Knowledge of common image quality issues and effective solutions, including noise, sharpness, color accuracy, and artifacts. Ability to use lab equipment and test fixtures for camera testing and controlled image capture. Experience with image processing and signal processing concepts. Ability to interpret how image processing algorithms affect overall image quality and user experience. Strong analytical skills to run simulations on RAW images and determine optimal tuning strategies. Ability to distinguish between good and poor photos and articulate the differences in technical and user-centric terms. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with multiple OEM camera tuning projects. Understanding of computational photography concepts and techniques. Experience with Python for scripting, data analysis, or automation related to camera testing and tuning. Experience in test fixture design for imaging and camera systems. Experience in optical processing and imaging, including an understanding of how lens changes affect sharpness profiles and overall image quality. Experience generating and maintaining comprehensive test results, tuning documentation, and SOPs. Comfort working in a fast-paced technology environment focused on software, AI, cloud, robotics, and advanced scientific innovation. Strong communication skills to collaborate with validation teams and other engineering stakeholders. Work Environment This position is based in a fast-paced, high-tech environment focused on delivering high-quality imaging experiences for consumer devices. You will work primarily onsite in Sunnyvale, with an expectation to be in the lab at least four days per week to perform camera testing, image capture, and tuning activities. The role involves frequent use of Qualcomm and MediaTek camera tuning and simulation tools, as well as lab equipment and test fixtures for controlled image capture under various lighting conditions. You will collaborate closely with other engineers and validation teams in a setting that emphasizes continuous learning, career development, and exposure to cutting-edge technologies in software, AI, cloud, robotics, and advanced scientific innovation. Attire is generally consistent with a professional engineering and lab environment, balancing office work with hands-on lab activities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of North Reading, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $150000.00 - $170000.00/hr.
