Job Description

For over 100 years, YMCA Camp Cormorant has offered spirit, tradition, leadership, and exceptional facilities to campers. Founded in 1903, Camp Cormorant is one of the oldest overnight camps in the entire nation. The camp is nestled on 80 acres of wooded property with an extensive beachfront on Big Cormorant Lake. We are located approximately six miles south of Lake Park, MN, in the heart of Minnesota lakes country. No day at camp is just a typical day. The YMCA Camp Cormorant offers more than just a job

Camp Cabin Counselors are the primary caregiver for campers. This position is responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities and guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills. A few Camp Counselors will be selected to run specialty camps, including wilderness camp, art camp, and fishing camp. If you are interested in running a specialty, please let us know in your application. Ensures that the American Camping Association (ACA) standards are followed Greets campers and parents upon arrival Assists in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their cabins, within activities and throughout camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes Responsible for leading and assisting with the teaching of activities Actively and enthusiastically participates in all program areas as assigned Acts as a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior Follows and upholds all safety and security rules and procedures Supervises campers in restroom/shower areas and cabins Works efficiently and effectively as a team player Prepares plans with the Counselor-In-Training (CIT) and Junior Counselors without leaving them alone at any time Discusses any concerns with the Camp Coordinator Reports any accidents or incidents to the Camp Coordinator Attends meetings and actively participates in all activities Assists with evening programs, campfire and leading songs; leads one evening per week Completes end of season evaluation 2026
Camp Dates:
May 31, 2026
  • August 14, 2026, with the week of the 4th of July off.
Must be available for the duration of the summer camp season. Room and board included.
Required Experience/Qualifications:
1. At least 18 years old 2. 6 months experience working with youth 3. CPR/First Aid Certification for Adult, Child and Infant No personal animals allowed on Camp premises. Benefits All employees receive a free YMCA membership! Employees begin accruing Sick Leave immediately upon hire and Paid Time Off (PTO) after one year of employment 403(b) Savings Plan 12% Retirement Plan
  • The YMCA will automatically contribute an additional 12% of the eligible employee's monthly income into their YMCA Retirement Plan when the following requirements are met: the employee has been employed with the YMCA for two years, the employee has worked 1,000 hours during each of any two 12-month periods, and the employee is 21 years of age or older Who are we?
