Manages and plans arboricultural activities on a large University campus. Compiles and maintains data on computer-based tree inventory for the purpose of maintaining a safe, healthy urban forest. Performs other duties as assigned.JOB DUTIES
50%- Essential
Arboricultural Supervisory Activities:
Directs arbor crew. Prioritizes and makes optimal use of personnel, materials and equipment to direct preventive tree maintenance using approved arboricultural industry standards. Prioritizes and implements related tree maintenance, including tree lightening protection systems installation, investigate insect and disease problems and treat when needed, cabling and bracing of trees, pruning and removal. Collaborates with tree industry experts including the University's Forestry Department to stay current with latest arboricultural practice and train workers accordingly. 20%- Essential
Arboricultural Asset Management:
Assists with arboriculture research and teaching. Reads, understands, and implements landscape plans on site. Operates the comprehensive, computer-based inventory of more than 6,500 campus trees on database, whereby maintenance activities are managed and scheduled. Promotes the importance of trees to the public and campus community. Provides hands-on arboricultural training for academic classes in related curricula. Maintains records and prepares reports regarding work activities. 15%- Essential
Administrative:
Ensures compliance with all OSHA regulations. Directs arbor crew, including interviewing, hiring, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling and directing, staff. Promotes equal opportunity and respect for others. Provides personnel development through performance appraisal. Completes fair, equitable, and timely EPMS planning stages and evaluations. Reviews personnel performance evaluations. Initiates actions such as merit increases, promotions, transfers, disciplinary action, and termination. Investigates irregularities and policy violations, and takes corrective action. Reviews and evaluates work schedules, flow, hours and assignments. Promotes good employee relations and solves group problems. Maintains personnel records. Provides staff in-service and continuing education. Promotes and supports employee development. 10%- Essential
Collaboration:
Works with architects, engineers, and facilities personnel in devising plans for tree preservation throughout campus with particular emphasis on construction sites. Monitors adherence to the University's Main Campus Urban Forest and Landscape Management Policy. 5%- Essential
Weather Related Cleanup and Clearing:
Plan for the use and operate equipment that is needed to clean up and clear roadways and sidewalks during weather events.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education- Associate's Degree and professional experience directly related to the area of employment.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Education- Bachelor's Degree in related field Licenses
- Drivers License Class B CDL Work Exp 3+ years International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist
