12/31/2026 Total Compensation Estimator Tool The Office of the Capital Collateral Regional Counsel•Middle Region ("CCRC-M") has an opening for a full-time capital post-conviction attorney position in Tampa Bay, Florida. CCRC-M advocates for indigent persons sentenced to death in the State of Florida in their state and federal post-conviction proceedings.Job Duties :
CCRC-M attorneys must be able to develop rapport with death-sentenced clients, to investigate, draft, and present motions for post-conviction relief in state court, and to litigate access to public records. CCRC-M attorneys will also conduct evidentiary hearings in state circuit court, and file and argue appeals in the Florida Supreme Court. Attorneys will file Petitions for Writs of Habeas Corpus in the federal district courts, and handle appeals there from in the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Attorneys will also work closely with their investigators to clients' friends and family members; identify documents to collect; review trial evidence; and work with experts to develop mitigation themes and challenge forensic evidence.Requirements :
Candidates must be able to organize work and set priorities to meet critical state and federal court deadlines. This position may require travel. It may also require occasionally working beyond business hours, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. A background investigation is required as a condition of employment.Selection Criteria :
Candidates must possess a commitment to the defense of death-sentenced individuals; have excellent writing and oral advocacy skills, and an ability to think creatively and strategically about capital litigation. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to develop a rapport with people of different backgrounds; be able to work independently and take initiative; be capable of analyzing and communicating complex information; and work well in teams.Salary/Benefits :
This is a full-time, at-will position. The salary range is $93,000 to $110,000 and is commensurate with qualifications and previous experience in criminal and/or capital post-conviction cases. Please note that salary is a portion of your total compensation, as benefits include health and life insurance as well as various supplemental plans; and paid annual leave, sick leave and state-recognized holidays.
