Job Title:
Carpenter Apprentice Job Description As a Carpenter Apprentice, you will work under the guidance of licensed carpenters to learn the fundamentals of residential, commercial, and industrial carpentry. You will gain hands-on experience in construction, framing, finishing, and related trades while performing physical labor, handling tools and materials, and following safety procedures on active job sites. Responsibilities Prepare job sites by setting up and cleaning work areas, unloading materials, and organizing tools and equipment. Handle materials by measuring, cutting, and moving lumber, plywood, drywall, and other building materials as directed. Operate basic hand and power tools safely, including saws, drills, nail guns, and other common construction tools. Assist with framing tasks such as building walls, floors, roofs, and other structural components under supervision. Support installation of doors, windows, trim, cabinets, and hardware to meet project specifications. Read and use tape measures, levels, and chalk lines to assist with accurate layout and measurement. Follow OSHA and company safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and awareness of job site hazards. Participate actively in on-the-job training and, when applicable, classroom instruction to develop carpentry and construction skills. Work as part of a small crew, follow directions from experienced carpenters, and contribute to efficient job completion. Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality to support project schedules and crew productivity. Essential Skills Basic math skills with the ability to measure accurately, perform simple calculations, and follow detailed instructions. 0-3 years of construction experience, including exposure to residential or commercial job sites. 0-3 years of carpentry experience, including framing or finish carpentry support. Demonstrated experience using hand and power tools safely and effectively. Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately. Physical ability to lift 75+ pounds, stand for long periods, and perform physically demanding tasks. Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions on active construction sites. Willingness to learn with a positive attitude and commitment to developing trade skills. Strong teamwork skills with the ability to follow direction and work closely with experienced carpenters and crew members. Reliable attendance and punctuality to meet work schedules. Valid driver's license. Ability to work on both residential and commercial construction sites. Additional Skills & Qualifications Interest in building a long-term career in the trades, including carpentry, concrete, drywall, and tile work. Experience or exposure to framing, finish carpentry, drywall installation, roofing, or concrete work. Familiarity with blueprint reading or a desire to learn basic construction plans and layouts. Experience with tile work or a strong interest in learning tiling techniques. Ability to work effectively in small crews and adapt to different job site conditions within a local region. You will regularly use hand and power tools, handle building materials, and work at different heights or in partially finished structures while following all safety procedures and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Funkstown, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
