CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY

Responsible to the Ground Transportation Operations Manager to perform all areas of vehicle operating, cleaning, and inspection. Individual is required to perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by the first level supervisor or other higher-level managers. Perform safety and security tasks as necessary.

MAJOR CLASSIFICATION ACTIVITIES

Drives truck, up to 1 ½ tons, usually 4 wheels; Drives vehicle from individual or central loading area to training location, job site, or other destination according to assigned schedule. Load and unload trucks with or without helpers. Ensure proper loading techniques are employed and materials are properly secured and protected; Complies with local traffic regulations; Reports delays or accidents, Will inspect vehicle IAW governing checklists. Check gas, oil, and water before departure. Will clean and/or service vehicle with fuel, lubricants, and accessories; May keep records of trips and/or behavior of passengers. Operate radio or similar device to communicate with Dispatch or other vehicles to report disruption of service; May perform other duties when not driving, such as cleaning vehicles and parking area; Will present a clean and neat appearance at all times. Formal attire such as coat and tie may be worn when transporting Distinguished Visitors. Cleans interiors and exteriors of transportation vehicles, Will polish/wax exterior of vehicle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum 1 Year of experience in Light Truck Driving. Have the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 35 pounds. Possess a valid state driver's license Class A CDL with "P" endorsement desired, but Class B CDL will be considered with "P" endorsement and be able to obtain a DOT health certificate. Complete Air Force training and licensing requirements as required. Be a High School graduate or equivalent. Must be computer literate and be able to obtain security/background clearance for access to the network computers. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Vehicles:

Our part-time employees operate a variety of vehicles including transit vans, 15-passenger vans, 28 and 44 passenger buses, forklift (we train), and tractor trailer (require a Class A CDL for tractor trailer). All of our vehicle operators must possess a passenger (P) endorsement on their CDL at time of hire.

Hours:

Transportation requirements drive how many hours our part-time employees work per week/pay period. We have staggered shifts that our part-time employees will fill. This depends on full-time employees being off, additional requirements from the Air Force, and weekend duty. There are no set number of hours guaranteed and will fluctuate from pay period to pay period. Our part-time employees have worked an average of 60-65% or more of a full-time schedule and were often paid $4000 or more per month (gross/before deductions) over the past year plus. This was the average (some months higher, some months lower)

Weekend Duty:

Our part-time employees are required to work weekends as on-call drivers for medical appointments and other requirements. Each part-time employee will work a 7.5-hour day shift on Saturday (7:00 am to 2:30 pm) and Sunday (8:00 am to 3:30 pm), followed by a 7.5-hour afternoon shift on Saturday (2:30 to 10:00 pm) and Sunday (3:30 to 11:00 pm), followed by 2 to 3 weekends off (depending on the total number of part-time employees).

Vacation and Sick Leave:

Our part-time employees earn vacation and sick leave time on a pro-rated basis (based on number of hours worked) starting their first day of work.

Holidays:

Our part-time employees are required to work holidays as on-call drivers for medical appointments and other requirements.
