Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is responsible for providing general and regional anesthesia, sedation, analgesia, IV and airway management. The CRNA is responsible for preparing patients for surgical procedures. The CRNA is a member of the Surgical Department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides anesthesiology services and consultation throughout the hospital.
  • Assesses patient and reads and evaluated admission reports, physicians' evaluations and diagnosis, laboratory test, and other written documents.
  • Updates and maintains accurate patient anesthesiology records, charts and other documents.
  • Observes and interviews patients to establish medical history and condition.
  • Administers appropriate injection and medication and monitors medication efficacy.
  • Describes plan of care, procedures and treatments to patients and family.
  • Consults with physicians and support staff as needed.
  • Performs quality assurance assessments.
  • Follows all physicians Services and MLMC policies and procedures and ensures compliance with all federal and state law and regulations.
  • Completes all required professional education including continuing nursing education hours and mandatory in-service to maintain professional licensure.
  • Performs other related job duties assigned.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
  • Assesses patient and reads and evaluates admission reports, physicians' evaluation and diagnosis, laboratory tests, and other written documents.
  • Updates and maintain accurate patient anesthesiology records, charts and other documents.
  • Administers appropriate injection and medications and monitors medication efficacy.
  • Consults with physicians and support staff as needed and collaborate with other professionals.
  • Performs quality assurance assessments.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills when communicating with patients, families, co-workers and physicians, as measured by observation and through patient and family satisfaction survey results.
  • Participates in education as required through mandatory in-service and acquisition of continuing nursing education, as measured by education and attendance records, maintenance of professional licensure.
  • Demonstrates adherence to LMLC Code of Conduct as measured by peer, supervisor and patient observations.
  • Demonstrates reliability as measured by compliance with MLMC Time and Attendance policies.
  • Demonstrates professional conduct by maintaining strict confidentiality, as measured by complaints given to the supervisor or director.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
Requires a Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of Anesthesia.
EXPERIENCE
A minimum of four years of experience in an acute health care setting is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
Requires current CRNA certification and Georgia license, American Association of Nurse Anesthetist certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to walk or stand for long periods. Ability to move heavy patients and equipment. Repeated bending, squatting, and stooping. Normal or corrected vision and hearing. Reaching and bending, including reaching above shoulder height. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to perform shift work including working extended shifts Ability to communicate with employees, patients and visitors. Ability to remain calm under stress.
ANALYTICAL SKILLS
Ability to evaluate a situation and provide the necessary duties and expertise. Ability to delegate duties and responsibilities in order to provide quality care for the patient, while managing assigned personnel as efficiently as possible. Ability to communicate well within the department and with the other departments. Ability to assume function in a charge position after appropriate orientation.

Well-lighted, well-ventilated work areas. Work under stress and under the conditions that normally exist in a hospital.

Ability to work both cooperatively and independently, to work efficiently under stress, to utilize sound professional judgement in establishing priorities and intervening in urgent and emergent patient care situations. Ability to promote a positive public image of the nursing unit and facility by communicating in a polite, tactful, and professional manner with patients, families, visitors, and co-workers. Required to work in areas other than those assigned.
