About the
Role:
The Certified Welding Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all welding and fabrication activities meet applicable codes, standards, and project specifications. This role performs inspections throughout all phases of production and documents results to ensure compliance.
Responsibilities:
Perform visual inspections of welds, materials, and fit-up to ensure compliance with AWS, ASME, API, and project-specific standards Review and verify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder qualifications Monitor welding operations for adherence to approved procedures and safety requirements Coordinate and/or witness non-destructive testing Identify weld discontinuities and nonconformances; document findings and recommend corrective actions Verify material traceability, dimensions, alignment, and join preparation Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and documentation in accordance with quality systems Communicate inspection results and quality concerns to project teams and supervisors Support training and development of welding team across various skill levels by providing guidance on welding techniques, code requirements, quality standards, and print reading Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards
Required Skills & Experience:
Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required; technical degree a plus 5+ years of welding inspection or related fabrication experience Strong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, SMAW, STAW, FCAW, etc.) Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical specifications Familiarity with applicable codes (AWS
D1.1, AS
Experience with inspection tools and measuring devices Strong attention to detail and documentation skills Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong team player with the ability to collaborate across departments
