Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a highly qualified Certified Welding Inspector to join our team in Rhome TX. This pivotal role involves overseeing welding processes and ensuring compliance with industry standards, project specifications, and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will possess extensive construction site experience, strong quality control and inspection skills, and a thorough understanding of blueprint reading, schematics, and pipeline systems. As a Certified Welding Inspector, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of construction projects through meticulous inspection, data collection, and analysis. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to large-scale infrastructure developments while ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety.
JOB SUMMARY
The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) performs inspections on welded products in a fabrication environment. The CWI utilizes magnification and stress equipment to ensure the products meet specifications and quality standards according to blueprints and knowledge of welding and metallurgy. Primary duties will include the visual welding inspection of poles and heavy structural steel assemblies for compliance to the specified detail drawings as well as AWS and AISC specifications The individual is also responsible for ensuring the weld machines are set up and operating correctly and the welding techniques of welders to guarantee the quality of the work.QUALIFICATIONS 3 - 5
years of experience in the welding of heavy steel assemblies, preferably with a portion of that time spent in an inspection role. An in depth ability to read and understand shop drawings, especially weld symbols. Basic knowledge of ASIC and AWS national codes. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or other continuous improvement techniques desired. Maintain an attitude conducive to progress through positive change, continuous improvement, and an active contribution to the teamwork concepts. Possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Must possess a strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently, follow directions Good oral and written communication skills Successfully pass a background check, including criminal history, drug screen, physical, audiogram, and vision test.RESPONSIBILITIES
Adhere to all safety requirements and protocols. Meet AWS standards for quality and safety. Read work instructions and/or drawings to interpret and confirm production and/or assembly information. Verify that the base materials and consumable welding materials conform to the specifications and that the welding filler materials used are as specified for each base material or combination of base materials. Verify that the welding equipment to be used for the work is appropriate for the use with the welding procedure and has the capability to meet the applicable requirements of the welding procedure. Verify that the welding procedures are as specified and are qualified, and that the welding performed is performed in conformation to the applicable procedure. Perform required tests as dictated byAWS D1.1.
Record and maintain inspection test data. Perform cost analysis of weld efficiency. Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department Leader or a member of the Management Team, and, as directed, discard products, materials, and/or equipment that do not meet specifications. Conduct research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures. Improve existing or develop new welding equipment as needed. Develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures as necessary. Establish welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements.RESPONSIBILITIES
(CONT.) Evaluate new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes. Complete job requirements with minimal supervision. Accurately document applicable job, product and quality information utilizing computer and paper documents as required. Verify that welders, welding operators, and tack welders have been qualified in conformance to the applicable standards, and that they are re-qualified to use the welding procedures specified for the work. Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Ability to perform miscellaneous job functions to assist with administration, quality and production operations, as needed.MEASURE OF PERFORMANCE
Quality, accuracy, thoroughness, reliability of work performed. Projects completed safely, with expected quality, on time and within budget. Quality problems closed out in a timely and cost-effective manner. Internal and external customer satisfaction with project quality. Inspection records and notebooks kept up to date and organized. Effectively communicates with management, and employees to establish and maintain trust and respect. Timeliness and adherence to inspection deadlines and schedules for meeting customer needs. Maintains the integrity of confidential business information, conducts business ethically and professionally. Consistently reports to work on time and absenteeism held to a minimum. Experience Proven experience as a Welding Inspector within the construction industry, with a focus on pipeline projects or structural steel work. Strong knowledge of construction inspection procedures, quality control practices, and relevant industry standards such as AWS codes. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings accurately. Familiarity with construction site operations, safety protocols, and contract management processes. Excellent analysis skills for evaluating weld quality data and identifying potential issues proactively. Prior experience in data collection, documentation, and report preparation related to construction inspections. Ability to work effectively in dynamic environments requiring attention to detail under tight deadlines. Certification as a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) from a recognized authority such as AWS is required; additional certifications in construction management or quality assurance are advantageous.
