Job Description
Job Summary:
The Certified/Registered Medical Assistant I is a multi-skilled health professional who works interdependently with other health care professionals to provide quality health care to the patient. The Certified/Registered Medical Assistant I supports the medical providers and ensures that all patients receive quality care while maintaining compliance with all federal grants, HIPAA, and MCHC policies and procedures.CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is the entry-level class in the Medical Assistant series. This class is distinguished from the Medical Assistant II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to established procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to Level II.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist providers and nursing staff with patient care. Collaborate with providers to facilitate the completion of applicable tests. Utilize population health systems such as Athena and Aledade to export documentation required for Huddle sessions, medication reconciliation, and appointment follow-up for patients. Facilitate patient phone calls for lab results, general questions, or concerns, and relay messages to the proper staff members. Develop relationships across broad organizational lines and where innovative and unstructured situations arise. Relationships usually involve combined skills in communicating, understanding, and flexibility with workflows. Document the chief complaint in the Electronic Health Record System (EHR). Measure patient vital records such as temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height, and weight, and record values in the Electronic Health Record System (EHR). Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine screening tests. Phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens. Properly complete lab requisition forms. Collect patient history and document in EHR prior to the patient being seen by a medical provider. Use CPR skills when required. Organize exam rooms, including general cleaning, upkeep, and re-stocking of supplies. Disposal of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards. Preparing the exam room for assessments such as pap smears and STD tests. Sterile tray set-up and prepping the patient prior to the medical provider's arrival. Demonstrate appropriate hand washing technique to ensure proper infection control and follow universal precautions. Maintain clinical lab books through recording daily lab procedures conducted, obtaining, and tracking lab reports. Assist Nursing staff with telephone encounters, documented daily in EHR. Document patient encounters and phone calls in EHR. Responsible for clinical box messages and timely response to patient requests. Communicate and collaborate professionally and effectively with medical providers, medical support staff, front desk staff, case management, medical records, and administration. Responsible for by-laws strict confidentiality of the bylaws of Medical Records. Attend designated meetings as an employee and medical staff member. Perform other necessary duties as required by the Community Health Center to meet the goals of providing primary health care.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

High School Diploma/GED Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program Minimum 1-3 years' experience in a medical clinic setting preferred Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within the parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.Certifications/Licenses:
Certified or Registered Medical Assistant Certification Active Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)Travel Requirements:
