Job Description

  • Job Title:
    Chemical Operator
  • Job Description
  • The Chemical Operator monitors and operates chemical processing equipment, handles raw materials and finished products, and performs basic analytical testing to support safe and efficient plant operations. This role works with tanks, trucks, rail cars, and material handling equipment while maintaining strict safety, quality, and housekeeping standards in a dynamic production environment.
  • Responsibilities
  • + Monitor tank levels using indicators, gauge glasses, measuring tapes, and related equipment to ensure accurate and safe operation.
+ Load and unload trucks, including making proper tank connections and verifying accurate vehicle weights. + Load and unload rail cars in accordance with established operating procedures and safety guidelines. + Perform basic analytical testing such as pH, density, and alkalinity measurements to verify product quality and process conditions. + Adjust gas flow to maintain proper evaporator temperatures and collect evaporator samples as required. + Operate forklifts and loaders safely and efficiently to move raw materials, intermediates, and finished products. + Charge solid raw materials from bags, supersacks, drums, and bulk storage systems into the process as specified. + Fill drums and tote containers to specified weights, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation where required. + Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the plant, keeping work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards. + Maintain a working knowledge of all safety policies and procedures and follow safe work practices at all times. + Ensure personal safety by adhering to plant safety requirements, including the proper use of tools, equipment, and protective practices. + Identify and address unsafe actions or conditions to protect coworkers, equipment, and facility assets. + Demonstrate full competency in the use of tools and instruments required to perform job duties. + Apply basic process chemistry knowledge, including understanding the properties of acids, bases, and solvents during daily operations. + Understand which raw materials are required for specific process steps and ensure correct materials are used. + Understand tank sequencing and tank contents throughout processing operations to support safe and efficient production flow. + Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall plant operations and team objectives.
  • Essential Skills
  • + Hands-on chemical processing or chemical production experience.
+ Experience operating forklifts and similar material handling equipment safely and efficiently. + Ability to perform basic analytical testing, including pH, density, and alkalinity measurements. + Working knowledge of basic process chemistry, including the properties of acids, bases, and solvents. + Ability to monitor tank levels using gauges, indicators, and measuring devices. + Capability to load and unload trucks and rail cars following established procedures. + Ability to perform heavy lifting as required in a production and material handling environment. + Competence in using tools and instruments required for plant operations. + Strong commitment to following safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices. + Ability to work effectively in a higher-noise, industrial environment and around outdoor elements.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • + Experience with mixing, batching, and compounding processes in a production environment.
+ Ability to understand and follow written operating procedures and work instructions. + Attention to detail when filling containers to specified weights and verifying measurements. + Strong awareness of housekeeping standards and maintaining clean, orderly work areas. + Proactive approach to identifying and addressing unsafe actions or conditions. + Willingness to perform additional duties as assigned to support the team and facility.

  • Work Environment
  • This role is based in an industrial plant environment that includes both indoor and outdoor work areas.
You will work in conditions that reflect the outside elements, including hot, dry, wet, snowy, or rainy weather. The facility has a higher noise level typical of chemical and production operations, and you will regularly work around processing equipment, tanks, trucks, rail cars, forklifts, and loaders. The position involves physical activity and heavy lifting as part of daily tasks.

  • $62400.00/yr.
