Job Description:
Chief Executive Officer
  • Industrial IoT Company (Confidential)
Location:
Bay Area, California Reporting To:
Board of Directors Compensation:
Meaningful equity ownership + market-aligned cash. Structured for founder-grade upside. The Opportunity A profitable, established industrial IoT hardware business with a multi-year customer book and proven product-market fit is being carved out as an independent company. The platform currently generates several million in annual revenue under long-term enterprise contracts, with installed deployments across Fortune 500 industrial customers. The Board is seeking a CEO t o take the controls of a real, operating business
  • not a slide deck
  • and build it into a category-defining standalone company.
The infrastructure is in place:
product, IP, customers, contracts, manufacturing relationships, and recurring revenue. The next chapter is yours to define and execute.
This is a rare configuration:
the de-risked foundation of an established business combined with the ownership, autonomy, and upside of a true founder seat. What You'll Own
  • Full P&L and strategic direction
  • of the standalone entity from day one
  • Product roadmap across the existing hardware portfolio and adjacent extensions
  • sensors, connectivity, edge intelligence, and the software layers that surround them
  • Go-to-market expansion
  • into new verticals and geographies beyond the current customer base
  • Channel and partnership strategy
  • distributors, systems integrators, hyperscaler marketplaces, and OEM embedded relationships
  • Team building
  • hiring the engineering, commercial, and operating leaders who will scale with you
  • Capital strategy
  • working with the Board on the funding path that matches the trajectory you set Who We're Looking For You've operated at the CEO or founding-team level before. You know what the first three years of company building actually feel like
  • the hiring mistakes, the pricing experiments, the channel conflicts, the cash flow math. You've earned that scar tissue and you're ready to apply it to something where the early survival questions are already answered. Specifically, you are someone who:
  • Has built and sold technical products to enterprise buyers
  • ideally in IoT, hardware-plus-software, industrial automation, telematics, or adjacent domains
  • Is technically credible enough to lead engineering decisions
  • you can read a firmware roadmap, evaluate a connectivity stack, and push back on architectural choices when needed
  • Is commercially sharp enough to close deals personally
  • you've carried a number, run pursuits, and know that founder-led selling is non-negotiable in the early years
  • Has•built teams from scratch•, including the painful early hires, and knows the difference between people who scale and people who don't•Has lived through a full company arc•whether that ended in a successful outcome or in lessons that compound into the next attempt•Sees the appeal of skipping the cold-start problem and going straight to building on top of something real What This Role Is Not•It is not a divisional GM role inside a larger company.
You will run an independent entity with your own Board.
  • It is not a turnaround. The business is profitable and growing under contract.
  • It is not a corporate operator search. We are not optimizing for Fortune 500 pedigree; we are optimizing for builders. Process This is a confidential search. Initial conversations are exploratory and held in confidence.
  • The hiring entity is a venture-backed industrial technology group. Full details, including the company name, financials, and customer list, will be shared under NDA with shortlisted candidates.
