Overview The Child Family Specialist, under the guidance of the Program Supervisor, and as a member of an assigned Wraparound team, will provide one on one services to youth (and their family) receiving intensive mental health services. This is a field-based position, allowing for this position to work independently in the family's home, and in a variety of community and/or treatment settings working to build rapport and support for clients. This person helps youth practice skills like managing emotions, handling tough situations, and improving behavior. This is a field-based role based out of our Bellflower office serving clients throughout LA's Service Planning Area 8. This area includes, but is not limited to: Torrance, Redondo Beach, Inglewood, Carson, Gardena, Hawthorne, San Pedro, etc. To view a map of SPA 8, please visit the link: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/chs/spa8/ Responsibilities Provide in-home behavioral intervention support to clients, as outlined in the treatment plan and under the direction of the supervisor and/or assigned clinician. Will be expected to complete initial and ongoing training to include Wraparound values, program design, and implementation. Develop a one-on-one relationship with the youth by providing support, guidance and concrete assistance that focuses on the needs of the youth, while maintaining appropriate boundaries. Function as a positive role model and advocate for the youth in his/her family system and community. Identify family strengths, underlying needs, and past traumatic experiences in planning. Utilize appropriate WRAP strategies and trauma informed interventions to assist families heal and achieve their goals. Adhere to all program requirements and timelines, including scheduling of initial meeting and attendance of Family Team Meetings and IEP meetings. Document all services provided to the family as identified in the client's plan and meet 100% of expectations monthly. Work closely with the family, facilitator, parent partners, clinicians, and collateral professionals to provide a safe and successful environment for the youth and family. Respond 24/7 to crises that may arise utilizing the Columbia Scale for assessing suicidality when necessary. The Child Family Specialist is expected to promote family-centered practice strategies, be flexible in service delivery and maintain a parent/family professional partnership. The Child Family Specialist is expected to promote family decision making, collaborate across systems, deliver and link services within the community and include family and community resources in plan of care and consistent practices with the Wraparound philosophy Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in a related field and one-year experience working with high-risk youth or an Associate's degree in a related field plus two (2) years' experience working with high-risk youth. Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) Experience working within child welfare and family systems, and/or trauma-informed work. Must obtain and maintain record clearance free from criminal convictions. Must provide a Negative Mantoux PPD Test/chest x-ray not more than one year prior to commencing work and maintain every three (3) years. Must have and maintain a valid California Driver License, clean driving record, and uphold auto insurance throughout employment. Must have CPR and First Aid certification upon hire and maintained throughout employment. Comfortable spending significant time driving as part of regular duties. Able to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team. Demonstrate flexibility, dependability, professionalism, and strong communication skills (verbal and written) Display good judgment, maturity, and problem-solving ability. Computer skills necessary (proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe). Maintain eligibility to participate in federal health care programs; eligibility is checked monthly through the Federal, State, and County Sanctions lists. Must have a helping philosophy that respects the value of people and seeks to maximize the growth of families and children receiving services; this philosophy reflects support for abused children in line with values, mission and treatment philosophy of Olive Crest.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Familiarity with, and willingness to utilize, community resources. Comfortable building relationships with culturally diverse families. At least two (2) years full-time equivalent experience (paid or unpaid) in delivering services in the mental health field.
