Job Description

The City of La Marque is excited to launch its Summer 2026 Internship Program, a paid six-week opportunity designed to provide students and young adults with real-world workplace experience, professional development, and hands-on exposure to local government operations. This program is focused on workforce development, career exploration, professional skill-building, and meaningful municipal experience. Interns will work directly alongside City staff while learning how local government departments support and serve the community every day. Whether you are interested in public service, technology, communications, emergency services, administration, or community development, this program is designed to help participants gain practical experience while developing valuable professional skills that can support future educational and career goals. Program Structure Mondays - Professional Development & Workforce Readiness Interns will report to City Hall each Monday for interactive workforce development sessions coordinated by Human Resources and City leadership.
Topics may include:
Workplace professionalism Resume building Interview preparation Leadership development Networking and communication skills Time management and accountability Email etiquette Financial literacy and life skills Mental wellness and work-life balance Career exploration within local government Interns will also have opportunities to hear directly from City leaders, department representatives, and community professionals throughout the program. Tuesday-Thursday - Department Placement Experience Interns will be assigned to one primary City department for the duration of the six-week program. Participants will work directly with City staff while gaining practical experience through: Shadowing opportunities Department projects and assignments Administrative and operational support Career exposure activities Public service and municipal operations experience Department placements will be based on: Operational needs Supervisor availability Applicant interest areas Program goals During the application and interview process, applicants will be asked which departments or career areas they are most interested in exploring. Participating Departments May Include Human Resources Information Technology (IT) Development Services - Permits Fire Department Police Department Library Services Communications Additional departments may participate through tours, demonstrations, presentations, and career discussions.
Applicants must:
Be at least 16 years old by the start of the program Be currently enrolled in high school, college, trade school, or another educational program Be able to commit to the full six-week schedule Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and willingness to learn Be able to work collaboratively with staff, peers, and the public Participants will have the opportunity to:
