Civil Construction / Utilities / Sitework Job Overview Southern Contracting is seeking a motivated Assistant Project Engineer to support the successful delivery of heavy civil construction projects. In this role, you'll work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure smooth project execution-from reviewing plans and submittals to coordinating schedules, vendors, and subcontractors. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or early-career professionals with a degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management to gain hands-on experience in the field and grow into a leadership role. Key Responsibilities As an Assistant Project Engineer, you will: Interpret project plans and specifications to ensure accuracy in the construction process. Assist with reviewing and managing project submittals. Generate purchase orders and track material deliveries. Support project scheduling and subcontractor coordination. Prepare and organize daily field reports for review by project leadership. Ensure compliance with state, federal, and client requirements. Provide general support to Project Managers and Superintendents as needed Qualifications U.S. Citizenship (required)

S. Citizens to meet federal project requirements. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (required) or Construction Management (preferred alternative). 1+ years of experience in heavy civil construction preferred, though entry-level candidates with strong academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities. Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset. Ability to pass State & Federal background checks to access military bases and Federal facilities. Civil Engineer license or active progress toward licensure is a plus.
