Job Description

Russel Metals is one of the largest metals distribution companies in North America, with a growing focus on value-added processing. It carries on business in three segments: metals service centers, energy field stores and steel distributors. Its network of metals service centers carries an extensive line of metal products in a wide range of sizes, shapes and specifications, including carbon hot rolled and cold finished steel, pipe and tubular products, stainless steel, aluminum and other non-ferrous specialty metals. Its energy field stores carry a specialized product line focused on the needs of energy industry customers. Its steel distributors operations act as master distributors selling steel in large volumes to other steel service centers and large equipment manufacturers mainly on an "as is" basis. DuBose Steel is a part of the JMS/Russel Metals family of companies.
Job Summary:
Responsible for the transportation of material and safe operation of company provided vehicle to meet customer delivery requirements.
Essential Functions:
  • Understands and follows all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Follows all DOT rules and regulations.
  • Strap, chain and secure materials to ensure safe transport to designated delivery point.
  • Tarp loads are required by customer or due to weather conditions.
  • Checks load for proper loading and that all materials are on the truck prior to departing.
  • Ensures any necessary repairs required are made to truck or trailer prior to departure.
  • Operate the vehicle safely and in accordance with local jurisdictions.
  • Maintain records/log book as prescribed by DOT and Company policy.
  • Operate company issued electronic and/or communication equipment professionally and respectfully. No Cell Phone use while driving motor vehicle.
  • Maintain a professional presentation and interaction with customers.
  • Coordinate with Transportation/Shipping department to update of any delays/returns or questions on deliveries.
Job Requirements:
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in operating CDL flat bed hauling
  • Actively maintains valid Class A CDL Drivers License
  • Clear MVR and PSP Dashboard record.
  • Report any citations received immediately and take photos of any cited deficiencies.
  • Basic reading and writing comprehension in English (to read instructions, tickets, safety and policies manuals)
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Basic measuring skills to read measuring devices
  • Experience forklift operations and certification
  • Experience on overhead crane operations and certification
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination
  • Assists customers with identifying materials to be off loaded at delivery location.
  • Verifies material and piece count at point of delivery with customer and signs Bill of Lading (BOL) with date of delivery
  • Collects correct amount of funds for COD payments from customers and secures payments with BOL until deposited in drop box daily
  • Completes all documents in Accident Kit with photos if involved in any type of incident.
