Job Title:
Class B Driver Job Description The Class B Driver supports a custom job shop welding and machining operation by completing local deliveries and pickups throughout the greater Rockford, IL area. This role combines driving a box truck with material handling, loading and unloading, and general shop support to keep daily operations running smoothly. Responsibilities Drive a Class B box truck (22-24 ft., automatic transmission) locally throughout the greater Rockford, IL area to deliver and pick up materials. Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently using a sit-down forklift and manual handling as needed. Handle materials in the shop, including moving, staging, and organizing parts and products. Assist in general labor tasks in the shop when not driving, such as supporting production and housekeeping activities. Run the saw and assist with other basic shop equipment as needed to support daily workflow. Review and complete delivery and pickup documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Follow all safety procedures while driving, operating forklifts, and working in the shop. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate deliveries, pickups, and shop tasks. Maintain a clean driving record and operate company vehicles in a professional and responsible manner. Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the shop and logistics functions. Essential Skills Valid Class B CDL in good standing. Clean driving record over the past 5 years. Experience driving box trucks or similar commercial vehicles. Ability to operate a sit-down forklift safely. Ability to load and unload trucks efficiently and safely. Strong attention to detail when handling materials and completing documentation. Ability to work effectively as a team player and get along well with team members. Capability to perform general labor tasks in a shop environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in material handling within a manufacturing or job shop environment. Familiarity with operating a saw or similar basic shop equipment. Comfort working in a custom welding and machining job shop setting. Willingness to assist in multiple areas beyond driving, including material handling and general shop support. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a first-shift role in a custom job shop welding and machining environment. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the possibility of flexible scheduling starting as early as 6:00 a.m. and ending as late as 4:30 p.m. Approximately half of the day is spent driving a 22-24 ft. automatic box truck, with the remainder dedicated to material handling, saw operation, and general shop tasks. The role involves working around industrial equipment, forklifts, and fabrication machinery in a hands-on, production-focused setting, where safety, teamwork, and reliability are essential. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Rockford, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45760.00 - $49920.00/yr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
