Job Description
SUMMARY Coordinate total nursing care for patients using nursing standards and the nursing process; following Maternal Health / Newborn Nursing Standards. Participate in patient and family teaching; provide leadership working cooperatively with other health care providers in a team oriented maternal health setting.
JOB DUTIES
Maintains communication and promotes cooperation inter and intra-departmentally both vertically and horizontally. Coordinates maternal / newborn health plan of care with physician and maternal / newborn health team. Provides information to staff. Communicates with and serves as a liaison between nursing/patient/patient's family/ significant other/physician and the surrounding community. Works with Manager to establish the short- and long-term goals of the Nursing Unit quarterly.

Frequently- Perceiving the nature of sounds by ear.
Near Acuity:
Frequently- Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
Accommodation:
Occasionally- Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of an accredited School of Nursing. Current State Nursing License. BSN preferred. At least five years' recent clinical experience in maternal/newborn health field preferred. Ability to coordinate the patient care unit. Must be able to use the following skills inAccountabilities/ Competencies:
conflict resolution, staff counseling, problem solving, disciplinary process, policy and procedure implementation, teamwork, staff scheduling, support of peers, interviewing, assisting with budgeting process, and cost containment skills. Current BLS Healthcare Provider card.WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal patient care environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, and temperature changes. Subject to certain distasteful patient care activities and exposure to communicable diseases. May be exposed to potential hazards such as chemical wastes, body wastes, fluids and other possible infectious material. Adherence to Maternal / Newborn Health Nursing Guidelines and use of specialty personal protective equipment is required per hospital policy and procedure.DISCLOSURE MMC
