Job Description

Counseling Services of Lancaster is a compassionate, client-centered behavioral health organization committed to improving the lives of individuals and families impacted by substance use and mental health. We believe in trauma-informed, evidence-based care and a collaborative team environment that supports both client and staff growth. Position Summary The Clinical Counselor provides individual, family, and group counseling, conducts assessments, develops treatment plans, and supports recovery goals for clients impacted by substance use and mental health disorders. This role ensures client care is trauma-informed, evidence-based, and collaborative. Key Responsibilities Direct Client Services (50%) Conduct comprehensive assessments and screenings. Provide individual, family, and group counseling using evidence-based modalities (e.g., CBT, MI). Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic group sessions. Support crisis intervention and safety planning as needed. Assists with client drug screening Follows up with and attempts to re-engage clients who have dropped out of services Treatment Planning & Documentation (20%) Develop and update individualized treatment plans based on client needs and recovery goals. Completes documentation within required timeframes Maintains clinically appropriate case notes that align with service codes, medical necessity, and treatment plan goals Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with agency, state, and federal regulations as well as ADSAP Guidelines. Collaboration & Teamwork (15%) Work with multidisciplinary team members, including clinical staff, peer support specialists, MAT providers, and referral agencies. Participate in case reviews, staff meetings, and treatment planning sessions. Serve on at least one agency committee Professional Development & Supervision (10%) Engage in regular clinical supervision. Attend ongoing training, workshops, and continuing education opportunities to maintain licensure and strengthen clinical skills. Other Duties as Assigned (5%) Provide additional support to the department or agency as needed to meet organizational goals. Qualifications Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field. Licensure or licensure in process in South Carolina. Experience with individuals with mental health conditions. Performance Standards & Expectations Strong organizational and time-management abilities with attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, client-facing environment. Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and high ethical standards. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams. Maintains dependable attendance and punctuality. Actively supports peers and contributes to a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Receptive to and applies constructive feedback. Represents Counseling Services of Lancaster professionally in all settings.
