Job Description
The Certified Medical Assistant I (CMA I) in the Primary Care and Specialty Clinics provides essential technical, administrative, and clerical support services to licensed physicians in compliance with Sections 2070 & 2071 of the California Business and Professions Code and Title 16 of the Medical Practice Act. This role supports efficient clinic operations while delivering high-quality patient care in accordance with state regulations. Professional Duties Perform non-invasive routine support services under the supervision of a licensed Provider in an office or clinic setting. Perform electrocardiograms in accordance with established policies and procedures and as ordered by the Provider. Administer medication, as ordered by the Provider, following the established policies and procedures and in accordance with the seven rights of medication administration. A licensed provider must verify correct medication and dosage prior to administration by the Medical Assistant. Documents all medications administered in patient's electronic health/medical record (EHR/EMR). Review charts for test results for previously ordered diagnostic testing on a daily basis. Immediately informs the Provider of any critical test results. Review patient charts prior to their scheduled visit and obtain any missing reports, test results, or any other documentation needed prior to the patient's scheduled visit. Maintain quality control office files and participate in quality control activities, such as but not limited to: medication outdate check, refrigerator temperature check, glucometer control check, etc. Administer tests per Provider orders. Assist with requesting lab and/or diagnostic tests as ordered by the Provider. Complete appropriate lab/test requisition and/or referral documentation timely and accurately. Assist with the coordination of patient care throughout the continuum of care. Triage and document patient calls in electronic medical/health record (EMR/EHR) in accordance with established policies and procedures. Immediately notify a Provider of any critical information regarding patient's health. Perform other duties as assigned. Serve as an ambassador for Desert Oasis Healthcare and Family Hospice Care at all times and positively shape the customer experience Be knowledgeable about your job so that you can serve others effectively Do your share. Be willing to pitch in and help Assume a neutral position and suspend judgment of others Address customers as Mr., Mrs., or Ms. until invited to do otherwise. Never use terms of endearment such as hon, dear, sweetie, etc. Be accountable for your work Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required. Certified Medical Assistant Certification required. 1 year of recent experience in a physician's office, clinic, preferred. Knowledge of Medical Terminology, preferred. Detail oriented and organizational skills. Ability to effectively communicate with individuals within all levels of the organization, patients, patient family members, providers, vendors and others. BLS required.
