Job Title:
CNC Machinist Job Description The CNC Machinist sets up, operates, and adjusts CNC mills, lathes, and machining centers to produce high-quality components according to blueprints, engineering drawings, and machining instructions. This role performs tooling changes, offsets, and program edits while conducting precise inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools. The machinist monitors machine performance to maintain production efficiency, troubleshoots machining issues in collaboration with engineering and supervision, and supports a clean, safe, and organized work area. The position also includes routine machine maintenance, prompt reporting of equipment or quality concerns, and active participation in a team culture focused on quality and continuous improvement. Responsibilities Set up CNC mills, lathes, and machining centers according to job specifications and setup instructions. Operate CNC machines to produce parts that meet blueprint and engineering drawing requirements. Interpret and follow blueprints, engineering drawings, and machining instructions to determine machining operations, sequence, and tooling. Perform tooling changes, offsets, and program edits directly at the machine as needed to maintain part quality and productivity. Conduct in-process and final inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools to verify part dimensions and tolerances. Monitor machine performance and production runs, making adjustments to feeds, speeds, and offsets to maintain efficiency and quality. Troubleshoot machining challenges and dimensional issues, collaborating with engineering and supervisors to resolve problems promptly. Perform routine machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting to ensure reliable and safe operation of equipment. Report equipment malfunctions, quality issues, and safety concerns promptly to appropriate personnel. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, following shop standards and safety procedures. Contribute to a team environment that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, and effective communication. Follow all production, quality, and documentation requirements associated with machining operations and inspections. Essential Skills Hands-on experience in CNC machining, including setup and operation of CNC mills, lathes, and machining centers. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering drawings. Ability to set up machines, including selecting and installing tooling, setting work offsets, and loading programs. Experience performing tooling changes, offsets, and basic CNC program edits at the machine. Strong skills in performing quality checks using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools. Ability to follow machining instructions and production documentation accurately. Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate parts. Ability to monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maintain efficiency and part quality. Strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting machining and dimensional issues. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, quality-focused environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a production machine shop environment. Familiarity with routine machine maintenance practices. Comfort working from detailed blueprints and technical documentation. Strong communication skills to collaborate with engineering, supervision, and team members. Work Environment The role is based in a very clean, organized, and spacious machine shop that is well lit and designed for safe, efficient work. Positions are available on second shift, typically from 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., and third shift, typically from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., providing options for those who prefer off-shift hours in a modern, well-maintained facility. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Frederic, WI.
