Full Job Description Position:
CNC Machinist Grade 2 NON EXEMPT Continental Diamond Tool was established in 1973, in New Haven, Indiana. We are a superabrasive specialist that provides custom cutting, polishing and grinding tools to multiple industries. It is our policy to fully satisfy our customers' needs and expectations on an on-going basis.Position Summary:
The CNC Machinist (Grade 2) is responsible for independently producing precision machined parts by setting up, programming, and operating CNC equipment with minimal supervision. This role requires strong technical competency in machining practices, program editing and creation, tooling selection, and quality verification. The Grade 2 machinist supports manufacturing operations by ensuring efficient setups, maintaining process accuracy, troubleshooting issues, and consistently meeting quality and productivity standards.Key Responsibilities:
- Read, interpret, and follow work orders, blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Measure and verify part dimensions using comparators, calipers, micrometers, bore gages, height gages, indicators, and other precision tools.
- Independently set up, operate, and monitor CNC machines within the assigned department.
- Write, edit, and optimize CNC programs, including G‑code modifications and basic programming logic.
- Select, install, and adjust proper workholding such as collets, chucks, fixtures, and vises.
- Set up, preset, and change tooling as required for each job, ensuring proper offsets and tool life management.
- Inspect first‑run and in‑process parts to maintain quality standards and make necessary adjustments.
- Operate equipment unsupervised while maintaining consistent output and adherence to specifications.
- Troubleshoot machining issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Meet or exceed standard productivity requirements and follow established manufacturing processes.
- Accurately report time, materials, and job progress in manufacturing systems.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Perform routine equipment checks, basic maintenance, and communicate repair needs.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to process enhancements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills:
- Proficiency in safely operating CNC and manual shop equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining principles.
- 2+ years of machining or manufacturing experience.
- Ability to operate manual machines (lathe, mill, grinder).
- Working knowledge of CNC controls, instrumentation, and machining processes.
- Ability to write, edit, and troubleshoot CNC programs.
- Strong computer skills, including Excel, Word, and ERP systems.
- Excellent functional and technical skills with strong attention to detail.
- Clear verbal communication and documentation abilities.
- Ability to follow instructions, ask questions when needed, and learn new processes quickly.

- Prolonged standing throughout the shift.
- Occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching.

- Frequent exposure to grease, oils, noise, and coolant in a manufacturing environment.
Pay:
