Job Title:
CNC Programmer Job Description This role is responsible for developing and writing programs for computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines using engineering specifications and drawings. The CNC Programmer reviews engineering drawings to define part configurations and determine the type and sequence of machine operations, independently selects appropriate cutters, and contributes to solutions for complex technical challenges to ensure production schedules and deadlines are met. The position requires strong expertise in aerospace CNC programming and complex parts, along with the ability to lead projects, guide less experienced staff, and collaborate effectively with internal teams and external suppliers. Responsibilities Develop and write CNC programs for machining parts, tools, and sheet metal based on engineering specifications and drawings. Review engineering drawings to define part configurations and determine the type and sequence of machine operations. Independently select proper cutters for each part, considering speeds, feeds, cutter types, and control system limitations. Participate in determining program routines for the most efficient computer calculation of dimensional and machining requirements for each part. Test and modify existing CNC programs to incorporate engineering changes and improve performance or manufacturability. Contribute to the development of solutions for a range of difficult technical problems to ensure production deadlines and schedules are met. Participate in preparing departmental documentation, including operational instructions and standard procedures. Serve as a primary contact with suppliers and vendors when needed to support programming or manufacturing activities. Provide direction and guidance to less experienced professional staff as required. Organize, schedule, and coordinate work assignments to meet project milestones and established completion dates. Initiate, plan, and manage programming projects from concept through implementation. Represent the organization as a knowledgeable technical resource on external projects when required. Identify issues, analyze and interpret data, and develop solutions to complex programming and machining problems. Accurately document, report, and present findings and recommendations to stakeholders. Observe all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational obligations whenever conducting business on behalf of the company. Work in a safe manner at all times, following established operating procedures and safety practices. Collaborate effectively in both independent and team environments to support production and engineering objectives. Perform other related duties as assigned to support the department and overall manufacturing operations. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in computer programming or a related field and five or more years of progressive experience programming CNC machines, or equivalent professional experience in lieu of education (for example, 11 years of CNC programming experience). Aerospace CNC programming experience. Experience programming complex parts for CNC machining. Complete understanding of CNC application principles, theories, and concepts. Demonstrated ability to organize, schedule, and coordinate work assignments to meet project milestones and completion dates. Ability to contribute to the development of new processes and resolve a variety of difficult technical matters. Strong customer focus with the ability to understand and meet internal and external customer requirements. Ability to identify issues, analyze and interpret data, and develop solutions to complex technical problems. Excellent analytical skills for evaluating designs, programs, and machining results. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for accurate documentation, reporting, and presentations. Strong interpersonal skills to guide and support other employees. Ability to initiate, plan, and manage projects effectively. Ability to represent the organization as a knowledgeable technical resource on external projects. Excellent general computer skills. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Ability to work extended hours and travel as required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with aerospace manufacturing environments. Experience with complex-part CNC programming in high-precision applications. Familiarity with NX or similar CAD/CAM software (training can be provided for the right candidate with strong CNC programming experience). Demonstrated leadership capabilities in mentoring or directing less experienced staff. Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on process improvement and efficiency. Willingness to relocate; relocation assistance may be available for the right candidate. Preference for candidates local to the Tupelo area. Work Environment This is a full-time, onsite role based in a manufacturing facility in the Tupelo area. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the expectation of working extended hours as needed to meet production and project deadlines. The work environment centers on CNC machining operations for aerospace and complex parts, involving close collaboration with engineering, production, and supplier teams. The role uses modern CNC machine tools and associated CAD/CAM and computer systems, and requires consistent adherence to established safety procedures and operating practices. FLEXIBLE WORK SCHEDULES
The Company offers the 9/80 schedule, which compresses 80 hours of work over a two-week period from 10 workdays into 9 workdays, which is accomplished by employees working eight 9-hours days and one 8-hour day.
