ABOUT US
Colorado High-Country Educational Treks (Colorado Treks) is a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to the healing power of the outdoors. Since 2016, the organization has provided culturally responsive, nature-based education and outdoor experiences to youth and families—primarily those who have historically faced barriers to accessing Colorado's natural spaces. Through school-based programs, outdoor treks, and family-centered experiences, Colorado Treks uses nature as a catalyst for connection, mental well-being, and personal growth. Their work is rooted in equity and representation, ensuring that participants can access the outdoors and see themselves reflected in it.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Board Member, you will: Provide strategic guidance and governance to support the organization's long-term growth and sustainability Act as an ambassador and advocate to expand awareness, partnerships, and community impact Contribute your expertise to strengthen programming, operations, and organizational effectiveness
EXPECTATIONS
Within 15 Days Build relationships with fellow board members and organizational leadership Attend board orientation and gain foundational understanding of programs and mission Participate in at least one program or school-day experience Within 30 Days Actively contribute to board discussions and committee work Identify areas where your expertise can support organizational priorities Begin engaging your network to support awareness and fundraising efforts Within 60 Days Take full ownership of your role as a strategic advisor and advocate Contribute to key initiatives, fundraising efforts, or partnerships Demonstrate active engagement in board meetings and organizational priorities
NEED TO HAVE
Mission Alignment:
Passion for environmental justice, youth development, and community impact
Commitment:
Ability to commit to and engage in a one-year board term
Availability:
Capacity to attend monthly in-person board meetings in
Denver Fundraising Mindset:
Willingness to support fundraising efforts through a "Give, Get, or Get Off" philosophy•
Collaboration Skills:
Strong communication, relationship-building, and strategic thinking abilities •Give = $5,000 annually, Get = 10% annually
NICE TO HAVE
Professional Experience:
Background in areas such as nonprofit leadership, education, health, conservation, marketing, law, business, or outdoor recreation
Board Exposure:
Prior experience serving on a board or in a volunteer leadership capacity
Community Connections:
Established relationships within Colorado communities, philanthropy networks, or relevant industries
Lived Experience:
Personal or professional connection to the communities Colorado Treks serves
Outdoor Affinity:
Interest in or passion for nature-based programming, environmental justice, or outdoor recreation
SCHEDULE
Quarterly board meetings (second Tuesday of the month, in-person in Denver) One-time board orientation (Sunday prior to first meeting) Ongoing participation in events, committees, and organizational initiatives
