Smoot Investments Inc. is a mortgage servicer and debt collection agency located in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. We are seeking a Collections Specialist to manage our expanding portfolio of consumer and commercial loans. The Position As a Collections Specialist, you will play a critical role in managing and overseeing groups of loans, ensuring that payments remain on track, negotiating payoffs, and working with customers to bring delinquent accounts current. Each day presents new challenges, and you will have the autonomy to think strategically and craft creative solutions to complex financial situations.

Your Responsibilities:

• Monitor loan accounts to ensure timely payments.
• Engage with customers through phone, email, and mail to resolve payment issues.
• Analyze customer situations and finances to offer tailored solutions.
• Negotiate and create repayment strategies that benefit both the company and the customer.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations while maintaining ethical collection practices.
• Engage with lawyers in contract litigation and legal proceedings.
• Travel to court nationwide may be required as part of case management.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or further education.
• Ability to pass FDCPA certification course upon hiring.
• Proficiency in operating a computer and basic software systems, with a strong preference for intermediate to advanced users of Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to multi-task efficiently and maintain organized documentation.
• Ability to perform under high levels of stress while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Ability to pass a background check.

• Competitive pay based on experience, starting at $25/hr with annual performance-based bonuses.
• Full-time, on-site role (40 hours/week) - Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Overtime could be required as needed.
