Job Description
Position Summary The College Police Corporal serves as a supervisory and operational leader within the College Police Department. This position is responsible for performing all standard duties of a college police officer while taking on advanced responsibilities that support departmental operations, training, investigations, and specialized units. The Corporal serves as a first-line supervisor and has oversight of critical functions within the department. This position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities while supporting the department's mission and responding to directives from supervisory staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include: Monitors student gatherings on campus, such as athletic events, etc., to ensure security and safety for the students, participants, and attendees. Locks outer doors and checks buildings and hallways after hours for signs of unusual activity. Issues citations to violators of campus parking regulations. Monitors students and visitors to ensure compliance with college policies and regulations. Completes written offense reports immediately after an incident. All reports are written in clear, concise, and standard English. Logs all activities in a daily log book. Makes scheduled tours of buildings and grounds by vehicle or walking to ensure security and watch for conditions that could result in injury or loss. Reports to supervisor any incidence of student, visitor, driver or employee actions, which could result in injury or loss to others. Reads and follows guidelines outlined in "Manual of Rules & Regulations" for Campus Police. Recertifies on the firearms range at least once annually. Lifts, carries, and moves heavy objects within safety limits. Serves as a Field Training Officer for newly hired officers. Conducts pre-employment background investigations. Conducts follow-up investigations to open cases. Evidence and Property Room Custodian. Supervisor of the Support Services unit of the Police Department. Supervisor of the Unmanned Aerial Systems Unit. Documentation and replacement of safety systems on each campus Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. Provides responsible, appropriate, and satisfactory leadership on campus and within the College. Communicates positively and professionally in all aspects of the position. Attends all staff meetings, College meetings, and professional development activities. Becomes familiar with and adhere to all College policies and procedures. Becomes thoroughly familiar with all pertinent state and national policies and comply with said policies. Serves on and provide information to college committees as needed. Maintains a highly professional attitude and demeanor at all times. Complies with ACCS and College policies, as well as state and federal laws. Ensures the positive promotion of the College and integration of all campuses within the College. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications Meet minimum standards of an Alabama Peace Officer. Valid Alabama driver's license. Displays a courteous manner when dealing with the public. Ability to tolerate considerable walking and 12-hour shifts. Effective oral and written communication skills. Three years of full-time experience with the Coastal Alabama Police Department. Preferred Qualifications APOST certified. CDL license. Completion of CPR certification or willingness and ability to complete CPR course. Application Procedures/Additional Information
