An excellent client in Florida is hiring a Commercial Underwriting Counsel. The candidate
MUST LIVE
in Florida, or be wiling to relocate. The underwriting counsel will be responsible for handling primarily high-dollar commercial transactions and answering a high volume of underwriting inquiries from company title examiners and Florida title agents. Must have strong knowledge of commercial underwriting in Florida.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES A
minimum of 15 years' experience as a commercial underwriting attorney or equivalent experience. Licensed to practice law in the State of Florida or will become Authorized House Counsel with the Florida Bar within 90 days of acceptance of job offer. Experience in handling large commercial transactions, including but not limited to underwriting various facets of creation of condominium developments and assessing construction lien risk preferred. Decisive and self-driven, with a strong focus on responsiveness and delivering practical, high-quality service to agents and internal partners Deep understanding of title insurance policies, endorsements, and underwriting practices, preferably in Florida Strong analytical and risk assessment skills with demonstrated ability to synthesize the full transactional picture and deliver solution-oriented guidance that facilitates successful closings while appropriately managing risk Demonstrated commitment to the role, including reliable availability during standard business hours Collaborative and team-focused professional who fosters a positive, constructive work environment Prior experience in a national business unit or national commercial services office a plus. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to assess risk and address problems with a solution-focused attitude and an eye toward practicality. Exceptional customer service attitude and people skills in working with title agents. Willingness to work with other Underwriting Counsel in a team environment. Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment. Strong and accurate attention to detail. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Experience:
Prior experience with high-liability or national commercial transactions Experience working with title agents, national accounts, or multi-state transactions Demonstrated ability to present to groups and deliver clear, engaging webinars on complex topics Proven ability to read, interpret, and analyze boundary, ALTA/NSPS, and construction surveys

College degree and Juris Doctorate Degree required. 15+ years of experience in the commercial real estate title industry is required. Member of Florida Bar.
