Job Title:
Electrical Commissioning Technician I Job Description The Electrical Commissioning Technician I supports the testing, maintenance, and installation of electrical equipment under close supervision. This entry-level role provides hands-on experience in the field, working alongside experienced technicians to develop foundational skills in commissioning, troubleshooting, and safe operation of electrical systems. Responsibilities Assist in testing and maintenance of site and field electrical equipment under the direction of technicians. Support the installation, rearrangement, and removal of electrical equipment and associated wiring in accordance with established procedures. Perform basic testing, moving, and adjustment of equipment using appropriate test instruments and tools. Assist in field construction inspections to help ensure compliance with NETA specifications, project plans, and safety standards. Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and maintenance activities, and prepare clear reports as required. Apply basic mathematics and use engineering measuring devices to support commissioning and troubleshooting tasks. Follow and apply safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), and use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Prepare equipment for testing as directed by the commissioning lead, including setup, configuration, and verification of readiness. Assist in the operation of load banks and related equipment while adhering to all safety requirements. Participate in Operational Risk Management (ORM) meetings and contribute to discussions on safe work practices and risk mitigation. Communicate effectively in English with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders to ensure clear understanding of tasks and safety expectations. Support troubleshooting activities by using multimeters and other test equipment to identify basic electrical issues. Follow instructions and standard operating procedures to complete assigned commissioning and calibration tasks accurately and on time. Essential Skills Ability to assist with testing, maintenance, and installation of electrical equipment in a field or site environment. Basic troubleshooting skills using test equipment such as multimeters and other diagnostic tools. Understanding of electrical wiring practices and the ability to support rearrangement and removal of wiring under supervision. Familiarity with calibration and commissioning concepts for electrical equipment. Ability to understand and apply basic mathematics in support of electrical measurements and calculations. Ability to use engineering measuring devices safely and accurately. Knowledge of and adherence to safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and proper use of PPE. Journeyman license or journeyman card (required). Manufacturing or construction with an electrical concentration. High school diploma or GED with two years of experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Reliable transportation to and from the worksite. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in manufacturing or construction environments with a focus on electrical systems. Interest in growing into a full-time commissioning or technician role within the organization. Willingness to learn and follow NETA specifications and industry standards. Ability to participate actively in Operational Risk Management (ORM) discussions and apply feedback to daily work. Flexibility to support occasional weekend work when requested with prior notice. Strong attention to detail in documentation, recordkeeping, and reporting of inspection and testing activities. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a hands-on field and manufacturing environment that emphasizes safety and teamwork. You will work around electrical equipment, load banks, and related tools, using multimeters and other test instruments regularly. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break and occasional weekend work requested with prior notice. Safety is a priority, and you must wear steel-toe boots, safety glasses, long pants, and a t-shirt while on site, along with any additional PPE required for specific tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ruther Glen, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $37.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
