POSITION OVERVIEW
The Community Pet Care Coordinator provides collaborative pet support services for intake diversion, return to owner, returned adoption, and rescue placement, with the goal of identifying outcome and/or placement options for most pets prior to or at the time of intake into the shelter. This position also assists with intake diversion efforts to keep pets with their families, as well as self-rehoming support for owners who must surrender their animals. The primary goal of the role is to decrease the length of stay in the shelter and to effectively triage animals at intake to ensure kennel time is minimized. This is a customer-facing position that requires a friendly, professional, and solutions-oriented approach when working with the public. The CPC Coordinator reports to the Animal Care and Programs Manager and works collaboratively with all PVAS teams to help more pets leave the shelter quickly and successfully. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist owners who are needing to surrender their animals with other options and attempt to keep the pets with their families. Attempt to provide resources to owners wanting to surrender their pets in order to divert the animal from being surrendered. Triage incoming or scheduled incoming pets to foster, rescue, adoption, and RTO based on intake type and animal size, history, and breed. Manage the "Home to Home" platform and encourage owners to first place their pets on this site before considering shelter surrender and/or while waiting for surrender appointments. Implement and manage finder-to-foster protocol for people who find lost pets and are willing to hold them through stray time. Utilize existing platforms including FB and Home to Home to get pets home, return pets to their homes and communities and help people rehome their own pets as well as find placements for incoming pets. Track all data related to program challenges and successes. Aid in offsite adoption events through setup, animal handling, visitor engagement, and providing pet resource guidance. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of one year of experience in customer service, case management, animal shelter work, or a related field. Experience with animal handling, veterinary assistance, and administering vaccines or treatments is strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience in program implementation and management, as well as providing customer service and/or case management. Working knowledge of dog and cat handling and behavior, including pets with challenging temperaments and with severe health conditions. Ability to handle pets safely and with kindness always, without exception. Must possess and maintain a current, valid Texas Driver's License. Skills and Requirements Must be able to work in a high-volume, fast-paced, high-stress environment. Self-motivated, great attitude, team-oriented a must. Must have the ability to render quick, responsible decisions under stressful circumstances. Knowledge and understanding of herd management practices and principles as they apply to shelter health. Must be able to use and understand shelter/medical software programs and other basic equipment associated with day-to-day operations. Experience with ShelterLuv is a plus. Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships and communications with staff, volunteers, animal control officers, and the general public. Ability to help establish and maintain best practices regarding sanitation, health, and animal well-being Competence in safe animal handling, including working with fearful or aggressive animals.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to odors or airborne particles including animal fur and toxic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is very loud.
