Description
The City of New Hope, located 8 miles northwest of downtown Minneapolis, with a population of approximately 22,000, is recruiting community service officers who are committed to building relationships with and serving our community. City leadership and residents are very supportive of law enforcement. The department operates from a very modern facility which opened in 2019 with excellent space to facilitate all aspects of policing and community engagement. Candidates must be team-oriented, passionate about serving others, and have very strong communication and interpersonal skills. CSOs assist members of the police department with animal control, patrol and related work.
New Hope offers educational expense assistance and will work with community service officers that are enrolled in school and interested in pursuing advancement to the position of police Requirements

Essential Functions
Performs security duties at city facilities, crime scenes and public events.
Assists with administering first aid at medical emergencies.
Assists with traffic accident investigations.
Assists with specific limited tasks relating to obtaining and processing evidence.
Assists police officers in the performance of their routine duties.
Provides animal control services.
Assists with gathering research data for department analysis.
Performs administrative and limited clerical tasks.
Maintains records of his/her activities while on duty.
Works with Community Services and DARE officers on a variety of programs.
Receives training as determined by the police department.
Patrols (in vehicle or on foot) parks and park facilities providing basic security, interact with users and enforce park rules and ordinances.
Patrols city providing public services and enforce city ordinances.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of effective public relations skills.
Thorough knowledge of the City of New Hope Code.
Thorough skill communicating both orally and in writing.
Thorough skill operating standard tools of the trade.
Thorough skill operating standard office equipment and applicable hardware and software.
Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
Ability to work weekday evenings and weekend hours as scheduled.
Ability to work in a positive manner with the public in a variety of situations.
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with police, city staff, as well as other agencies.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in a variety of situations.
Ability to safely operate and maintain a vehicle as required.
Ability to learn and apply City of New Hope ordinances, procedures and rules applicable to job requirements.
Ability to learn and apply all necessary animal control statutes, ordinances and procedures for the city of New Hope.
Ability to learn the use of specialized animal control equipment.
Ability to handle wild and domestic animals as required.
Ability to write reports in a consistent and timely manner.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, elected officials, consultants, other city staff, vendors and the general public.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires walking, sitting, tasting or smelling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires exposure to vibration and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, wearing a self contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
Valid driver's license in the State of Minnesota.
Preference given to applicants enrolled in a post-secondary law enforcement program or experience in the criminal justice or similar field.

- City manager interviews Following all interviews, conditional offers will be extended to the preferred candidate. Conditions include: backgrounding, and psychological and physical evaluations Start date would be set once conditions are met, ideally by August. Salary 58,947.20
