Job Summary:
The Teacher for the Medically Fragile/Multiple Disabilities Program at the Norman E. Day School in Westford, Massachusetts is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with complex medical and educational needs. This role involves developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs), collaborating with therapists and families, and creating a safe and stimulating learning environment. The teacher works collaboratively with nursing to ensure that the student's medical needs are met in the educational setting.
Responsibilities:
Individualized Education Program (IEP)
Development and Implementation:
Develop, implement, and progress monitor IEPs based on comprehensive assessments and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and families
Instructional Delivery:
Provide specialized instruction in academic, functional, and developmental areas, adapting curriculum to meet individual student needs. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and assistive technologies to enhance learning. Create a stimulating and engaging learning environment that promotes student participation and independence. Collaborate effectively to implement strategies developed by the interdisciplinary team, including TVI, OT, PT, and SLP into the daily educational setting
Collaboration and Communication:
Maintain regular communication with families to provide updates on student progress and address concerns. Responsible for overseeing teaching assistants and their instruction to the students
Medical Considerations:
Understand and implement medical protocols and procedures as required for each student. Monitor student health and safety, and respond appropriately to medical emergencies. Maintain accurate records of medical information and interventions. Work closely with nursing staff, and medical professionals. Be trained in the operation of any needed medical equipment.
Classroom Management:
Create and maintain a safe, organized, and supportive classroom environment. Implement positive behavior support strategies to address challenging behaviors. Manage classroom resources and materials effectively.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field. Valid teaching certification in Special Education. Experience working with students with medical fragility and multiple disabilities preferred. Ability to lift and transfer students as needed.

Patience, compassion, and a strong commitment to student success. Ability to adapt and modify instruction to meet individual student needs. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
