Job Title:
Compliance Engineer Job Description The Compliance Engineer plays a key role in bringing a significant number of new products and product variants to market quickly by leading and accelerating the UL certification and broader product compliance process. This position partners closely with Electrical Engineers to test, validate, and obtain required certifications for precision DC/DC converters and variable frequency drives (VFDs). The successful candidate leverages existing UL processes, drives open projects to completion, and ensures that new products consistently meet applicable regulations, standards, and certification requirements. Responsibilities Lead internal compliance projects to establish and maintain product conformity with new or updated standards and regulations. Work closely with Electrical Engineers to test, validate, and obtain certifications for precision DC/DC converters and variable frequency drives (VFDs). Serve as the lead Compliance Engineer in the New Product Introduction process, ensuring new products meet relevant regulations and certification requirements. Act as a Subject Matter Expert to support other team members on compliance topics and certification strategies. Ensure timely completion of all product compliance deliverables for products of critical importance, including compliance assessments, design reviews, certification and test plan creation, documentation, and process implementation. Utilize and optimize existing UL processes to accelerate open certification projects and bring products to market as quickly as possible. Collaborate with sourcing and suppliers to ensure the supply chain supports product compliance requirements and is responsive to certification needs. Serve as a primary interface with domestic and third-party certification agencies such as UL, CSA, TUV, and Intertek. Develop, manage, and maintain plans and schedules for compliance projects of significant strategic importance, including initiatives related to RoHS and REACH. Work with leadership to assess risk and develop strategies to ensure ongoing compliance of products with applicable standards and regulations. Apply basic engineering and manufacturing principles, theories, and techniques to support product design and compliance. Manage projects from initial concept through production release, ensuring compliance is integrated throughout the product lifecycle. Communicate project status, risks, and compliance issues effectively across all levels of the organization. Use strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve compliance and certification challenges efficiently. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field with knowledge of basic engineering and manufacturing principles, theories, and techniques. 5+ years of experience in a Manufacturing or Development Engineering organization, preferably within electronics or electrical equipment manufacturing. Hands-on experience with UL certification processes and UL standards, includingUL 1741, UL 508, UL 508A, UL
61800-5-1, and related UL standards. Strong experience in product certification processes and regulatory compliance for electronics, low voltage equipment, and drives and controls. Previous experience with environmental regulations, product standards, certifications, and conformance agencies. Knowledge of compliance regulations and compliance management practices related to electronics and electrical engineering. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to compliance and engineering challenges. Experience with project management techniques, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating multiple projects. Ability to work on projects from initial conception through production release. Experience working with regulatory and certification bodies such as UL, CSA, TUV, and Intertek. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with product stewardship initiatives and programs. Previous experience with environmental regulations such as RoHS and REACH. Experience in functional safety engineering. Experience working with conformance agencies and international certification bodies. Familiarity with electronics, low voltage systems, and drives and controls. Ability to act as a Subject Matter Expert for compliance within cross-functional teams. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Caledonia, WI.
