Job Description
Posting Details Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date. The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) provides a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public while promoting economic development and preserving New Mexico's environment. As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrate leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government. Why does the job exist? To ensure compliance with established procedures and state laws regarding permits, fees, and taxes required by commercial carriers to travel through New Mexico. The permits, fees, and taxes generate revenue for the NMDOT Ports Division and the New Mexico Road Fund. How does it get done? The position involves collecting revenue and fees from the Commercial Motor Vehicle Industry. In addition to collecting taxes and fees to ensure compliance by carriers moving through New Mexico, exceptional Customer Service by the Port of Entry staff is critical to upholding the NMDOT Mission/Vision. Utilizing various office skills to include answering telephone calls and assisting carriers professionally over the phone and in person at the port. Work with carriers to ensure safe routes, review paperwork, and calculate trip taxes. Various resources and training are available to ensure efficiency. Who are the customers? New Mexico commercial vehicle drivers. Ideal Candidate New Mexico commercial vehicle drivers. Minimum Qualification High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in investigations, regulation, policy, statutory, and/or contract compliance. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions The Lordsburg Port of Entry operates continuously as a 24-hour facility. Shift assignments are subject to change based on facility staffing levels and operational needs. Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive phone and personal computer usage. Direct client interaction and some travel may be required.
