The successful candidate may teach a combination of in-person, hybrid, and online courses, depending on program need. Computer Science and Computer Technology are important disciplines in WVC's commitment to providing career-connected education, transfer pathways, and workforce-aligned technical training. These courses support students preparing for further study, entry-level employment, advancement in technology-related fields, and applied skills needed across multiple industries.
Examples of Courses or Content Areas May Include:
Introduction to Computer Science Programming fundamentals Python, Java, C++, or other programming languages Scripting and automation Data structures and algorithms Computer architecture or systems concepts Web development Database concepts Networking fundamentals Cybersecurity fundamentals Information technology concepts Software development practices Applied computer technology skills for workforce programs Examples of Duties and Responsibilities Prepare, modify, and deliver course content, including syllabi, assignments, presentations, learning activities, and assessments, in accordance with approved course outlines and student learning outcomes. Provide appropriately challenging instruction that supports student learning, persistence, and success. Teach assigned courses in accordance with college expectations, approved curriculum, and quarterly schedules. Use inclusive, student-centered teaching practices that support a diverse community college student population. Assess student learning using appropriate methods and provide timely feedback to students. Maintain accurate student records and submit grades by established deadlines. Use WVC-supported instructional technology, including Canvas or other learning management systems, as appropriate. Communicate regularly with students and maintain availability for student consultation. Refer students to appropriate college support services when needed. Collaborate with program faculty, staff, and administration to support course quality, curriculum continuity, and student success. Stay current with emerging practices, tools, and trends in computer science, programming, cybersecurity, and technology education. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, or a closely related field; or Bachelor's degree in a related field with significant at least 10 years professional experience in computer science, programming, cybersecurity, information technology, or a closely related area; or A combination of education, industry experience, certifications, and demonstrated teaching/training ability that supports effective instruction in the assigned discipline. Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching or training adult learners, community college students, or workforce learners. Experience teaching in online, hybrid, or technology-supported learning environments. Experience using Canvas or a similar learning management system. Professional experience in programming, software development, cybersecurity, networking, systems administration, database management, or related technology fields. Industry-recognized certifications related to cybersecurity, networking, cloud computing, programming, or information technology. Demonstrated ability to support students from varied educational, cultural, and professional backgrounds. Commitment to continuous improvement in teaching and learning. Ability to connect classroom learning to real-world technology applications and career pathways. We are looking for enthusiastic instructors who set high expectations but are eager to help students meet those expectations. Interviews may include a teaching demonstration on a topic selected by the interview committee. Pay The pay for classes depends on the number of credits and instructional mode (lab, lecture or a combination). In general, each lecture credit is one hour a week and paid at $121.90 per hour. For example, if the class was five credits, it would meet five hours per week and be paid at 55 hours for the quarter and the salary would be approximately $6704. Each lab credit is two hours and paid at $60.95 per hour. Therefore, if the class was a three-credit lab, it would meet six hours per week a be paid at 66 hours for the quarter and the pay would be approximately $4022.
