By building and preserving affordable housing through new construction, renovations, and home repairs, Habitat LA is transforming communities throughout Los Angeles County. Through access to affordable loans, housing counseling, down-payment assistance, skilled construction training, financial education, and volunteer opportunities the organization has strengthened families, helped stabilize communities, and fostered economic vitality in the region. On average, the affiliate builds and renovates 100 homes in the Los Angeles region each year, ranking it among the largest affiliates nationwide.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) is seeking a qualified candidate to perform construction work and manage crews of employees, partner families, or volunteers as directed by the site leadership. Ensure safety practices are always implemented. Teach the necessary skills to workers to enable them to complete tasks on-site. Perform quality assurance of all work.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Complete daily construction and repair work as directed by site leadership, ensuring all work aligns with Habitat for Humanity's established quality standards and project expectations. Carry out work to complete tasks as assigned Provide leadership for crews Teach needed skills to volunteers Always ensure appropriate safety practices Support site leadership to plan daily work tasks and materials needed for project schedules Support site leadership in maintaining a clean and safe work environment Always maintain a professional presence and communication with all personal onsite Ability to run the job site for short periods of time as directed by the Site Supervisor (this includes but is not limited to: opening and closing the job site, the material runs, overseeing multiple crews and their leaders, covering the site for a day if Site Supervisor is out, monitoring and addressing site safety issues, communicating clearly with management the daily and weekly site goals)
SUMMARY OF JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Must be able to successfully pass a drug test, 75 lb. physical lift test, background check, authorization, and a driving record check. Must have access to reliable transportation to perform job duties, a valid CA Driver's License, and meet the state-required amount of personal automobile liability insurance. Understanding of, or willingness to learn, proper safety practices and consistently apply them on the job site. Patience and communication skills to instruct volunteers at various skill levels in performing construction tasks. 2+years of hands-on construction experience 2+years leadership experience Dependable, punctual, and able to follow directions from site leadership. Ability to interact respectfully and clearly with team members, homeowners, volunteers, and site visitors. Willingness to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. Capable of performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, standing for long periods, and working outdoors in various conditions.
WORK CONDITIONS
Frequently it is required to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. alone, team lift 100 lbs. Frequent movement around the office/warehouse/ReStore may be necessary. Regular work with computers, including keyboards, mouses, and screens. Working conditions consist of high temperature-controlled workspaces. Noise levels are moderate to loud depending on the work area. While performing the duties of a Construction Crew Leader the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers, handle and/or feel objects, handle tools and/or controls, and talk to and/or hear. COMPENSATION
Pay Range:
$25.00/hr. - $29.00/hr. The position is being offered at $25.00/hr.
