Job Description
Position Summary The Asphalt Construction Lowboy Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transport of heavy construction equipment to and from job sites. This role is critical to daily paving, milling, grading, and site preparation operations by ensuring equipment arrives on time, undamaged, and ready for use. Dump Truck driving is also a potential when lowboy driving slows down. Key Responsibilities Safely load, secure, transport, and unload heavy equipment using a lowboy trailer Haul equipment such as pavers, rollers, skid steers, excavators, and milling machines between shop, yard, and job sites Perform proper load securement using chains, binders, and blocking in compliance with DOT regulations Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of truck, trailer, and securement equipment Verify equipment condition before and after transport and report any damage Coordinate with dispatch, shop, and field supervisors for scheduling and routing Assist equipment operators with loading and unloading when needed Maintain required paperwork and inspection reports Follow all company safety policies and DOT regulations Maintain a clean and professional appearance of truck and trailer Provide support on job sites when not actively hauling (spotting, light labor, etc., as directed) Drive a dump truck when the lowboy is not actively needed. Experience & Qualifications Proven CDL truck driving experience with a focus on hauling construction equipment Skilled in operating manual transmission trucks and tractor-trailers, including lowboys, flatbeds, and dump trucks Strong understanding of load securement, weight distribution, and equipment transport procedures Experience with route driving in urban and rural areas while maintaining high safety standards Working knowledge of DOT regulations, safety protocols, and basic vehicle inspection procedures Ability to assist with loading/unloading and operate auxiliary equipment when needed (e.g., forklifts) Prior experience hauling heavy machinery or operating specialized trailers such as lowboys is highly preferred Strong work ethic, reliability, and professional attitude No automatic restriction
