The ConsumerResidential Mortgage Underwriter is Responsible for managing the consumer and residential mortgage underwriting functions to ensure efficient and effective credit decision making to accomplish the department's goals for asset growth while maintaining charge-offs, non-performing asset and delinquency goals. The incumbent will make recommendations to senior management for consumer lending policy including underwriting, procedures, pricing and loan product features.
Responsibilities:
Manages the Consumer and Residential Mortgage Lending underwriting functions in order to ensure the efficient and effective underwriting and approval of consumer and residential mortgage loan requests. Ensures that all underwriting activities of the Consumer and Residential Mortgage Loan functions are conducted in accordance with established Bank lending and compliance policies and procedures. Serves as primary consumer and residential mortgage loan underwriter, decisioning loan requests originated through the Branch and residential mortgage lenders, according to personal lending authority. Present and recommend credit requests above personal authority to senior personnel or committees with the appropriate lending authority. Ensures that residential mortgage loan documentation is formatted as required for the secondary market. Assists in the development of loan policies and procedures for all consumer loan types and works with the Mortgage Loan Sales Manager for development of loan policies and procedures for residential mortgages. Recommends policy changes to Executive Management for presentation to the Board of Directors if required. Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the Bank's compliance with all regulatory requirements, e.g. Community Reinvestment Act, Bank Secrecy Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, etc. Communicates with the Loan Administration Manager, other department managers and appropriate staff personnel in order to integrate goals and activities. Provides periodic reports to the Loan Administration Manager and other groups as required throughout the Bank.
Qualifications:
Education/Training:
High School Diploma or equivalent with an emphasis in a business curriculum, special training related to loan documentation, loan regulatory compliance in all areas of lending. Skill(s): Proficient reading, writing, mathematics and grammar skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal relations skills, working knowledge of loan closing software, thorough knowledge of current mortgage and retail loan regulations; knowledge of Bank operating policies and procedures and lawsregulations.
Experience:
A minimum of two (2) years' experience in consumer credit, loan documentation and banking law/regulatory environment normally required.
