Job Summary:
Description We are looking for an experienced Controller to join our team in Hood River, Oregon on a Contract basis. This position will focus on reviewing accounting operations, assessing team effectiveness, and identifying whether current challenges are driven by staffing capacity, individual performance, or underlying financial processes. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical judgment, leadership experience, and the ability to recommend practical improvements that support accurate and efficient accounting operations.
Responsibilities:
  • Review current accounting workflows and financial controls to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and areas of operational risk.
  • Evaluate team structure, role alignment, and day-to-day execution to determine whether performance concerns are related to staffing levels or individual capability.
  • Analyze accounting procedures and supporting systems to assess how well they enable accurate reporting and timely completion of core finance activities.
  • Develop clear findings and recommendations that address process improvements, role responsibilities, and operational accountability.
  • Partner with leadership to prioritize corrective actions and help establish a more effective and sustainable accounting framework.
  • Examine documentation practices and financial record organization to support compliance, accuracy, and audit readiness.
  • Prepare concise summaries of observations, root causes, and recommended next steps for stakeholders and decision-makers. Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in a Controller or senior-level accounting leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting operations, internal controls, financial reporting, and process evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess team performance and identify whether issues stem from staffing, skill alignment, or workflow design.
  • Experience reviewing financial documentation, maintaining organized records, and supporting document control practices.
  • Ability to analyze existing procedures and translate findings into actionable business recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present assessments clearly to leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
