The Cook prepares and serves healthy and nutritious meals for students, staff, and teachers in accordance with National Food Lunch Program guidelines and requirements.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prepares ingredients and cooks breakfast and lunch menu items. Assigns tasks to part-time Cafeteria Workers. Reviews and assists food and supply inventory to ensure proper ingredients for upcoming meals. Checks and records temperatures in refrigerators and freezers; monitors temperatures of prepared food. Completes and adjusts production worksheets; records unserved food amounts and number of students served. Monitors and sets up for breakfast and lunch services. Participates in cleaning dishes, appliances, work surfaces, and utensils, and storing food. Directs and supervises operation in manager's absence. Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned. Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND six months of food service industry experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.License and Certification Requirements:
Must possess a Maricopa County Food Handler's Card at the time of hire. Must be able to obtain a ServSafe Certificate within 90 days of employment. Must possess a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint clearance card within 90 days of employment.IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Skill in completing assignments with minimum supervision. Knowledge of the culinary industry including food service operations, sanitation standards, food preparation, and food service equipment. Skill in operating a variety of commercial kitchen appliances. Ability to identify and correct safety hazards in the kitchen. Ability to maintain compliance with food safety regulations and standards. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures. Skill in understanding, explaining, and applying relevant rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public. Commitment to create and sustain a thriving learning and working environment for students and staff. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to use initiative within organizational policies, procedures and guidelines.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
