MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

: A) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three years of experience working as a Cook, one year of which must have involved the preparation of food in large quantities;

Or:

B) Elementary education and five years of experience working as a Cook, one year of which must have involved the preparation of food in large quantities;

Or:

C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

JOB OVERVIEW

The work involves the preparation and cooking of large quantities of food at the County Correctional Facility. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher ranking employee. Supervision is exercised over a number of inmates assigned to the kitchen. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITES

Prepares and cooks meals; Supervises and assists in the training of inmates in food preparation; Prepares and cooks special dietary meals; Supervises the cleaning of equipment used in food preparation; Requisitions supplies when needed; Supervises daily clean up of kitchen, storerooms, eating areas, dishroom and garage removal.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

: Good knowledge of modern methods and equipment used in the preparation of food in large quantities; ability to prepare and cook food in large quantities; ability to read, write and do basic arithmetic; ability to supervise the work of others; cleanliness; initiative; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
