Job Description
Islebrook Village is Maine's newest senior living community, offering Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care apartments for rent. We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic cooks to join our third-party Dining Services Team. As a cook for New Horizon Foods, you are responsible for properly executing all recipes and menu quality for meal service while maintaining a clean and sanitary environment and a team environment. 1. Prepares and serves meals in accordance with job task list and menus provided. 2. Follows portion control and diets prescribed by physicians. 3. Honors residents' food preferences and requests 4. Prepares foods according to standardized recipes available. 5. Prepares special food items necessary for residents with special Culinary needs 6. Prepares and serves meals in an attractive manner with clean plate presentation and garnishment and follows safety and sanitation policies to provide quality meals and services. 7. Maintains and updates recipes that correspond with menu cycles; along with all other related working tools. 8. Does not over or under cook food, preserving nutrition and assuring it is palatable and acceptable for the needs of Community residents. 9. Understands nutritional balance with plate presentation. 10. Serves foods at appropriate temperatures and records temperatures as assigned. 11. Defrosts food properly and uses food promptly; plans and utilizes leftovers appropriately. 12. Follows proper procedures for storage (food is kept in covered containers, labeled properly and off the floor). 13. Meets time frames for food preparations and serving; completes work within allotted time. 14. Practices infection control as it relates to food storage, preparation and serving. 15. Assists in the maintenance of equipment in a safe, sanitary, and functional manner; and reports any problems noticed appropriately. 16. Uses equipment as instructed following safety rules. 17. Maintains neat and clean appearance and washes hands appropriately. 18. Respects resident's cultural, ethnic, and religious preferences as well as general likes and dislikes; offers/obtains substitutes as requested. 19. Assures waste, garbage and recyclable items are appropriately disposed of. 20. Scrapes, sprays, and soaks all equipment and utensils. 21. Oversees and is in charge of all Culinary staff in the absence of Director of Culinary/Food Service Supervisor and is tactful in doing so. 22. Is responsible for Food Service Operations with all departments and affiliates of Community Village in the absence of Director of Culinary/Food Service Supervisor. 23. Maintains and actively promotes effective communication with patients and family members / personal representatives. 24. Responsible for maintaining a positive image of Community in the community keeping in alignment with our mission, vision, and values. 25. Communicates all necessary information and incidents to the chef director 26. Works hand in hand with front of the house staff 27. Shows up on time according to schedule and adheres to attendance policy 28. Performs other similar duties, as needed. 29. Tolerant of interruptions and flexible when changes occur. 30. Arrives at work with a clean uniform 31. Follows all uniform standards including personal hygiene 32. Adheres to all New Horizon Foods policies and procedures and all applicable host management policies and procedures. This is not a complete list of responsibilities and expectations. Other tasks may be required that are not listed within reasonable expectation of being a cook with New Horizon Foods.
