This position may some include weekends.
Qualifications:
1. Must possess a food handler's permit as applicable. 2. Preferably possesses a high school diploma. 3. Must have experience and knowledge in institutional cooking techniques, food service, basic nutrition, sanitation and food safety. 4. Sanitation and food safety certification as applicable.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Possess skills in cooking techniques, food service, food safety and sanitation. 2. Understands the importance of the various therapeutic diets and their preparation. 3. Ability to work independently and under direct supervision. 4. Ability to satisfy customers' needs and desires (within facility policies/procedures). 5. Good oral and written communication skills. 6. Basic knowledge of local, state and federal regulations related to food, sanitation, food safety, food service, etc. 7. Basic computer skills (as applicable) 8. Ability to supervise department in absence of director of food and nutrition services, assistant food and nutrition services manager and/or executive chef, and assist as needed. 9. Ability to address patient/resident and family concerns in the absence of director of food and nutrition service, assistant food and nutrition services manager and/or executive chef.Job Summary:
The cook/chef works under the supervision of the lead cook/chef, assistant director of food and nutrition services, and/or the director of food and nutrition services. The cook/chef must have skills in food preparation, production control, inventory control, kitchen safety, sanitation, equipment use and cleaning/sanitizing, food safety, menus and therapeutic diets, facility policies and procedures related to the nutrition and dining service department, and must work well under the direction of a supervisor or manager.Duties:
1. Assists in the preparation and serving of food as directed. 2. Thoroughly cleans equipment and work area in accordance with company policies and procedures and applicable local, state and federal rules and regulations. 3. Prepares and distributes snacks and nourishments as directed. 4. Ensures that food preparation follows prepared menus and that residents' likes and dislikes are honored as much as possible. 5. Performs duties in a timely fashion, and within the approved time frames. 6. Ensures that safety precautions and infection control policies and procedures are followed during daily work assignments. 7. Follows standardized recipes and utilizes portion control. 8. Exercises good judgment in preparation of proper food quantities and timely preparation. 9. Plans ahead for future menus (i.e. pre-preparation, thaw meats, etc.). 10. Directs the operations of the kitchen in the absence of a supervisor. 11. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor, assistant manager, and/or manager. 12. Completes mandatory training and/ or routine training per facility policy such as HIPPA, abuse, resident's rights, dementia, ethics and emergency preparedness.Job Type:
