Agency Adult Correction Division COO - Operations Job Classification Title Correctional Sergeant III (S) Position Number 60063122 Grade NC09 About Us The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work Reporting to the Correctional Housing Unit Manager and/or Correctional Lieutenant III at a multi-custody male correctional facility, the primary job duties of this position includes, but is not limited to, the following: 1. Providing first-line supervision to Correctional Officer III's in a close-custody institution with restrictive and controlled housing. 2. Assigning lower level custody staff to post(s). 3. Overseeing officer activities and performance, and ensuring that custody, security, and welfare of offenders is maintained. 4. Arranging work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing standard operational procedures, and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to departmental policy. (

About Central Prison:
Central Prison in Raleigh, NC has been in continuous service since 1884. It serves as the admission point into prison for adult male felons sentenced to 20 years or more and is the main medical and mental health center for male offenders. It also houses special populations, including death row and safe-keepers. While security requires that certain offenders remain in their cells, there are more than 260 offender job assignments that include working in the kitchen, laundry or canteen. Offenders also work as barbers, janitors and clerks. Offenders can attend substance abuse group therapy meetings, Bible studies or worship services.
