Job Description
GHC is looking for a talented, energetic, and dedicated full-time faculty member to teach courses in the Natural Sciences, including Mathematics, to incarcerated individuals. Potential disciplines within the Natural Sciences include Astronomy, Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, and Physics. Additional responsibilities will include academic student advising, outcomes assessment, committee work, and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be expected to participate actively in the affairs of their Department, the college, and the community, and regularly connect with main-campus Math faculty. We hope to attract candidates for this position who have a passion for teaching math, who can communicate using language that is both accurate and accessible to our students, and who would endeavor to improve individually, as a department, and as a college. The Department of Corrections contracts with Grays Harbor College to provide educational services for offenders. This position is located at Stafford Creek Corrections Center (SCCC). Although safeguards are implemented to protect staff, this work will be performed in a correctional facility where the potential for violence exists. Applicants for this position must be able to pass an N.C.I.C. background check and be cleared to work in a prison. Continual access to the facility is a critical element of employment. T his is a full-time, replacement faculty position, not to exceed 2 years . It is grant funded and continuation is subject to the availability of funding. The placement on the salary schedule for 214 Day Contract will be determined by education and experience at the time of hire. Initial placement of faculty shall be no higher than 5 years of service. Full-time faculty will also receive 1 day of sick leave per month and 5 days of personal leave days a year. Faculty positions at Grays Harbor College have been designated as bargaining unit positions represented by the Grays Harbor College Federation of Teachers, Local 4984. The faculty union and the college have a bargaining unit agreement (referred to as the contract) that is posted on the GHC website at https://www.ghc.edu/hr/labor-relations Teach science and pre-college and college level math courses. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning that meets the needs of students and employs appropriate instructional methods. Maintain proper alignment between courses offered at Stafford Creek and those offered on the main campus. Work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Develop and maintain student records as required by the college and other agencies. Act as a resource for adjunct faculty. Advise students in their preparation for and completion of their individual education pathway. Participate in ongoing professional development. Serve on college committees as necessary.
Working Conditions:
Must be able to attend Department of Corrections CORE training and all annual required training. Hours M-F will vary and may include some evenings. Saturday classes are an option as well. Master's degree in Natural Sciences or closely related field from an accredited college or university. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Demonstrated success teaching Science and Math at the high school level or above.Ethics/Integrity:

Desired Qualifications Demonstrated success teaching Natural Sciences and Math at the college level. Demonstrated success with students in a correctional setting, while upholding strong boundaries and high expectations.
