THE POSITION
As a Corrections Equipment Operator with the Department of Corrections, you will play a key part in transporting freight and supporting warehouse activities. This role allows you to work with equipment, interact with inmate workers, and help keep operations on schedule. Your commitment supports safe and organized movement of goods across the facility. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports freight transport and warehouse operations by operating vehicles, guiding inmate workers, and maintaining safe work areas. It combines equipment operation with training duties to ensure smooth and secure daily workflows. As a Corrections Equipment Operator, you will perform the following duties:
Vehicle Operation:
Operate tractor-trailers, trucks, and other vehicles to complete daily assignments
Equipment Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance, safety checks, and minor repairs on assigned equipment
Documentation Tasks:
Complete receipts, reports, and logs in line with policies and procedures
Inmate Training:
Train and oversee inmate workers in freight loading, unloading, and basic equipment care
Worksite Safety:
Safeguard the work area by issuing tools, maintaining inventory, and conducting contraband searches Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 40 hours per week Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday
  • Friday.
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary:
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Two years of experience in the operation of tractor-trailer trucks; or A combination of experience and training which affords the applicant the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirement:
This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
Additional Requirements:
This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations. Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
